SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Members of the U.S. Marshals Office traced an Arizona man to South Lake Tahoe after he left the state prior to a court appearance on over 40 counts of sex crimes.

Gordon Golding, 56, was arrested by the marshals with assistance from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at a home on Margaret Street on November 19. He is currently in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe on a felony fugitive from justice warrant, awaiting extradition to Arizona.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An inmate in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe escaped Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. while doing supervised inmate duties outside of the jail.

Ruben Zavala Garcia, 38, was in custody for multiple criminal charges to include domestic violence, violation of restraining order, false imprisonment, burglary, and a violation of probation. He had been arrested on July 4, 2021, and was still in custody awaiting his next court appearance next week. He had not been convicted or sentenced for his charges.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In partnership with the City of South Lake Tahoe and Barton Hospital, the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) will be hosting a vaccination clinic for children aged 5 to 12 years in the afternoon of Tuesday, November 23.

Two hundred doses are available and interested parents can sign up at https://myturn.ca.gov/. Follow the prompts to be shown available clinics with appointments.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A quiet weather pattern continues around the region through Monday. A weak cold front moves through Tuesday bringing breezy northwest winds, cloudy skies, and low-end chances for light rain/snow showers mostly over the far northern Sierra. High-pressure returns for the remainder of next week with dry conditions and seasonable temperatures prevailing, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Nearly 40 local Girl Scouts from the Tahoe Shores service unit and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada attended a recent Rock Climbing Day hosted by Troop 722 at Blue Granite Climbing Gym. Girls were taught about the equipment and skills by the gym’s experienced climbing staff. Many earned their Climbing Adventure Badge or worked on some of the skills required to complete the badge for their level in Girl Scouts.

I’ve been thinking a lot about thanksgiving since coming home from the Caldor Fire evacuation. Driving down the West Shore after dark September 10, I wondered what I would see in the morning. I noticed mostly fire and law enforcement vehicles, and most businesses were shuttered. What would I see in daylight? Would there be ugly fire scars on the hills, bears in my kitchen, smoke stink in my closets?

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Three juveniles were arrested on Friday for a series of vehicle burglaries and stolen cars overnight in Douglas County.

On November 19, 2021, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to reports of 12 vehicle burglaries and three stolen cars in the Minden, Gardnerville, and Topaz areas.

DCSO received a Secret Witness tip of possible suspects involved in the thefts. DCSO Patrol Division and Investigations Division followed up on the tip and made the arrests of the three males. Additionally, two handguns were stolen during the thefts and recovered.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Eight miles of leaded cable weighing an approximated 150,000 pounds abandoned at the bottom of Lake Tahoe will have to be removed after a settlement agreement was finalized last week.

Divers discovered the abandoned cables in 2012 as they were removing trash from the bottom of Lake Tahoe. That discovery led to years of work, first to discover what the cables were, who they belonged to, and what they were doing to the lake.

The magnitude and impact of the cable cannot be understated. The discovery of the cable inspired the foundation of Below the Blue.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you were awake overnight, catching a look at the lunar eclipse, you know it was windy, cold, and cloudy, but that didn't stop those wanting a look at the longest nearly-total eclipse in 580 years.

One of those awake was South Lake Tahoe resident John Gomez who shared this photo. This is a composite photo of the eclipse last night, which means it is a photo of the moon merged with a wide-angle shot of the sky.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Enjoy Christmas Tree Lane this holiday season. There will be a fun "parade of trees" hosted by 13 South Lake Tahoe businesses during a new fundraising event for Live Violence Free.

At each of the businesses, there will be decorated trees available for viewing between November 26 - December 17, 2021. The trees will then be given away to lucky winners entering the contest and donating all day on the 17th.

For 25 years, Valhalla Tahoe has hosted an annual Holiday Faire at the Heller Estate for the enjoyment of the community. Valhalla Tahoe and its volunteers celebrate the season by decking the Grand Hall for everyone's enjoyment. This year, it will be held November 19-21.

A favorite tradition for many families, you can get a glimpse of Tahoe's past while shopping for hand-made crafts, taking free photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and enjoying local entertainment and holiday libations.

Masks will be required while indoors at this event.

Wylder Hotel Hope Valley will be offering free interpretive programs (and a few Christmas-oriented programs as well) every weekend through the middle of February.

The Eastern Sierra speaker series continues with two more campfire interpretive programs on Saturday and Sunday, November 20 and 21.

On Saturday, November 20 at 4:00 p.m., join them for “Reflections of Lake Tahoe.” Local historian David Woodruff takes a look back at the many people and events that have helped shape Lake Tahoe over the past 160 years and examines the unsuccessful efforts to create a Lake Tahoe National Park.

The annual Meyers Tree Lighting event is scheduled for Friday, December 3 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. There will be hot cocoa, popcorn, a photo opportunity with Santa, and music.

Santa will be dropped off by CalStar, weather permitting), and the beautiful Meyers tree will be lit up with more lights than ever before.

Bring your family and friends for a fun-filled evening complete with great Meyers Vibes. Lake Valley Fire and the Tallac Hot Shots will be there to celebrate Meyer's too.
