Knight Monsters begin the new year with flurry of roster moves
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/03/2025 - 1:20pmSTATELINE, Nev. – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, the ECHL affiliates of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights, announced some roster moves on Friday. They signed Defender Dominic Vidoli and forward Isaac Johnson, and traded forward Blake Christensen to the Kalamazoo Wings for future considerations.
Christensen skated in 14 games for the Knight Monsters this season, scoring three goals and adding five assists. He scored his first goal of the season against the Kansas City Mavericks on November 23 and had a game-opening goal against Tulsa on December 8.
Knight Monsters take care of Tulsa Oilers in front of packed houses at Tahoe Blue Event Center

The home team lost the first in the three-game series on Friday but got the job done on Saturday and Sunday. All of the action was done in front of sold-out crowds.

The Tahoe Knight Monsters fought valiantly against the Tulsa Oilers, but were defeated 4-3 in overtime in front of a sold-out crowd at the Tahoe Blue Event Center.
After 8-game winning streak, Knight Monsters drop two to Utah
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/21/2024 - 10:20pmWell, the fun had to stop sometime. And that fun eight-game winning streak came to an end in the Maverik Center against the Utah Grizzlies.
On Friday: Despite mounting a late comeback, the Tahoe Knight Monsters fell for the first time in the month of December, losing 6-3 to the Utah Grizzlies at the Maverik Center.
It was their first loss since November 30 against the Idaho Steelheads, and the defeat broke Tahoe’s eight-game winning streak.
Two Knight Monster players called up to Henderson Silver Knights
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/20/2024 - 12:50pmSTATELINE, Nev. – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights announced today that forwards Simon Pinard and Jett Jones have been recalled back to Henderson.
Pinard, 23, played three games with the Silver Knights earlier this season and was reassigned back to Tahoe on November 29. In the 10 games with the Knight Monsters, he scored six goals and added nine assists.
He had the third most goals in the ECHL at 14, and also scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Allen Americans on December 3.
Knight Monsters hold on to win Thriller in Utah

The Tahoe Knight Monsters were pushed to the limit on Wednesday night in Utah, but ultimately prevailed 7-6 in overtime. They weathered two furious Grizzlies comebacks and Brennan Kapcheck scored the game-winner in the extra frame.
The first period played out like the majority of the previous three games against Utah, with Tahoe scoring four goals. Jake McGrew hit the back of the net twice, while Sloan Stanick and Jett Jones also struck to make it 4-0 after 20 minutes.
Then the second period happened.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/16/2024 - 12:02amSTATELINE, Nev. – By the end, it wasn’t even close. The Tahoe Knight Monsters dominated the Utah Grizzlies at home for the third straight game, winning 7-3 to secure their seventh victory in a row and their first three-game sweep in franchise history.
Things started quiet in the first period, with neither team able to sustain an offensive foothold in the first ten minutes of play. But that all changed in the next four minutes, as Sloan Stanick, Simon Pinard, and Jett Jones all scored in quick succession to make it 3-0.
And they were just getting started.

Fresh off a dominating win against the Tulsa Oilers this weekend, the team was celebrated by the airport, media, and fans alike.
The team's mascot Tessie also joined in the welcome home arrival party. It was a historic moment, the first time they arrived as a group after a road trip.

Adam Robbins scored twice, Sloan Stanick notched the game-winning goal on the power play, and Jesper Vikman won his second straight start with a 24-save effort.
This is Tahoe’s first-two game sweep of the season, and the two points vault them up to fourth in the mountain division.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College Women's Soccer team has a big home game on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lady Coyotes will be battling City College of San Francisco for a trip to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA or 3C2A) Final Four.
The game will be held at South Tahoe Middle School.
The LTCC team is 10-0 in the Golden Valley Conference this year, 19-1-2 overall, and is riding a 15-game winning streak. San Francisco is 8-1-2 in the Coast-North division, 16-2-3 overall.
Heavenly opens for the season

First ski and ride days always come with high energy and smiles, and it was no different today, said those on the slopes.
"We were so stoked to welcome our guests back to Heavenly for the start of yet another amazing season ahead, and today really set the bar high," said Cole Zimmerman of Heavenly.
Knight Monsters dominate Utah in series finale for first road win in franchise history
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/10/2024 - 10:55pmAfter falling apart late in the third period on Saturday night in Utah, the Tahoe Knight Monsters responded in a big way Sunday with a 6-2 domination over the Grizzlies.
Sloan Stanick tallied four points, Simon Pinard scored twice, and netminder Justin Robbins tallied his first professional win to lead Tahoe to their first road victory in franchise history.
Utah struck first in the game, with Dylan Fitze taking a cross-ice feed from Craig Armstrong and roofing it past Robbins on the weak side. It’s just the second time all season Tahoe has not scored first.
South Tahoe High girls and boys soccer teams bring home NIAA 3A State Championships
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/10/2024 - 10:44pmBoth of the South Tahoe High School soccer teams won the 2024 Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) State Championship this weekend.
The STHS Girls won the #1 seed from the north during playoffs, then won their first round on Friday against Dayton by a score of 2-0. They then met the #2 seed from the north, Truckee, for the state title on Saturday and the Vikings won 5-0. During the regular season, the girls ended with a 19-2-2 overall record, 11-1-2 (2nd) in league.
George Whittell High School's Robertson wins NIAA Northern Region 2A Cross Country Championship

Logan achieved this remarkable feat at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno on October 25. The Whittell boys team finished the regional meet a respectable 7th place. Jada Rojas was the lone runner on the girls' side for the Warriors, and just missed qualifying for the state meet by 39 seconds, finishing in 8th place.
South Tahoe High Girls Volleyball team finishes season with 8-2 league record
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/03/2024 - 8:25pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 16-12 South Tahoe High volleyball team ended their 2024 season with a first-round loss in the regional quarterfinals on October 28. In league, the team ended in second place with an 8-2 record.
The match at South Tahoe High was a hard-fought one, with Elko ending up the victor (25-15, 16-25, 25-23, 14-25, 15-12). Elko ended up taking the regional championship this weekend by beating both Spring Creek and Fernley. Both Elko and Fernley represent the North next weekend in the NIAA Class 3A Girls Volleyball State Tournament.

It was a high-energy game that had fans jumping out of their seats and cheering, with plenty of physical plays, checks along the boards, and penalties on both sides.

The STHS team held their final tournament against Fallon at Lake Tahoe Golf Course on Oct. 8, with all six girls having their best rounds of the season to solidify their trip to State. The winner of the tournament was going so everything was on the line. The two best rounds for STHS were had by Carly Cox (89) and Piper Arnold (91).

Adam, 34, comes to Tahoe after spending the last eight years abroad. He played seven seasons in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) from 2016-2023, and split time last year with HC Plzeň in Czechia and HC Banska Bystrica in Slovakia. In that 2023-24 season, he played 28 games and totaled 15 points (5g 10a).

The announcement was made in Park City, Utah on Friday, and South Lake Tahoe native Piper Arnold is on that list.
Piper, who turned 17 this summer, is on the halfpipe rookie women's team, joining pros Hanna Faulhaber, Svea Irving, Riley Jacobs, and the other rookie, Kate Gray, 18, of Crowley Lake who skis for Mammoth Mountain.

South Tahoe MTB/Douglas MTB races at North Tahoe Challenge

They are part of the Nevada North League of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
Many team members raced in the North Tahoe Challenge which was held on trails adjacent to North Tahoe High School. The course was a 4.6-mile lap with 450 feet of elevation gain per lap under dusty and loose trail conditions.

Boeing, 29, joins the Knight Monsters coaching staff from the United States Hockey League’s (USHL) Dubuque Fighting Saints where he served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach. Boeing was a member of a coaching staff that helped guide the Fighting Saints to a President Cup Finals appearance this past season.

Forward Logan Nelson
Nelson, 30, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Knight Monsters lineup. Nelson has orchestrated three productive seasons with the Rapid City Rush totaling 173 points (60g, 113a) in 179 games played from 2021-2024. Nelson served as an alternate captain for the Rush during the 2021-22 season.

The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad are scheduled for July 26-August 11 in Paris, France.
Spectrum video subscribers will have access to NBCU’s extensive coverage of Olympic programming, including live competition sessions (which start with team competitions on July 24), on-demand, and featuring more hours of Olympic programming on the NBC broadcast network than any previous Games.

Tabakin, 24, joins the Knight Monsters after beginning his professional career with the Newfoundland Growlers this past March, logging an assist in six appearances. Before joining the Growlers, Tabakin concluded his senior season at Arizona State University where he collected ten points (2g, 8a) in 36 games played.

Fish, the former professional tennis player, and U.S. Davis Cup captain, birdied nine of his final 13 holes – each worth 3 points in this modified Stableford scoring event – and has 57 points, seven points clear of second-place Joe Pavelski heading into Sunday’s final round. Kapcheck, 27, joins the Knight Monsters after playing the past three seasons with the Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL) where he registered 59 points (7g, 52) in 115 regular season games from 2022-2024. He also added an additional 14 points (1g,13a) in 31 playoff appearances with the Growlers in 2022 & 2023. The 5-9, 179-pound blueliner also made ten appearances last season overseas with HKM Zvolen in Slovakia logging an assist.

Organizers say this is one of the strongest fields across sports and entertainment in tournament history.
Headliners include Travis Kelce, Tony Romo, Charles Barkley, Aaron Rodgers, Annika Sorenstam, Seth and Dell Curry, Miles Teller, Colin Jost, Ray Romano and Larry the Cable Guy. 43rd annual Tour of the California Alps Death Ride this weekend
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/08/2024 - 7:38pmALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - The 43rd annual Tour of the California Alps Death Ride returns for 2024 in Alpine County on Saturday, July 13. The 103-mile ride starts and finishes at Turtle Rock Park in Markleeville and covers both sides of three mountain passes - Monitor, Ebbett's, and the Pacific Grade.
There will be road closures on Saturday to be aware of: SR-4 (Ebbett's Pass) will be closed from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., and SR-89 (Alpine State Hwy) will be closed from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Riders will begin at 5 a.m. and cover 14,000 feet of climbing during the day.

The South Tahoe Babe Ruth All Stars 13U team triumphed with a decisive 17-6 victory over Sparks on Saturday, securing their spot in the Babe Ruth Pacific Southwest Regionals in Bakersfield, California, July 21-27.
On Sunday, the South Tahoe Babe Ruth All Stars 14U team endured a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to Fallon, with the game decided on a walk-off double in the bottom of the tenth inning.

The tournament features top teams as they take the next step on the journey to the Pacific Southwest Regionals in July.

South Tahoe Futbol Club boys end season with success
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/25/2024 - 11:20amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Six South Tahoe Futbol Club (STFC) boys teams advanced to championship games at the 28th annual Come Up for Air (CUFA) soccer tournament last weekend in South Lake Tahoe, with two teams claiming first-place finishes.
The U-13 STFC Coyotes, coached by Jose Del Rio, captured the Tallac Division championship with a 3-2 win over Reno Apex. The middle school-aged team went undefeated in its four tournament games and outscored opponents 15-7.

South Tahoe Football Club teams claim tourney titles, second weekend of CUFA coming up
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/17/2024 - 10:30amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The successful spring season for South Tahoe Futbol Club (STFC) continued last weekend at the Copa de las Sierras tournament in Truckee and over this past weekend in South Lake Tahoe.
The STFC Under-14 girls, coached by LTCC assistant Derick Gonzalez, claimed the Come Up for Air (CUFA) tournament title on Father’s Day Sunday with a 3-2 win over the Carson FC Venom. The team won all four of its games and outscored its opponents 18-3.
Tryouts next week for Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe after-school competitive soccer team

Tuesday, June 11 for girls with birth years 2011/12/13/14/15
Wednesday, June 12 for boys with birth years 2011/12/13/14/15
Thursday, June 13 is make-up day
Tryouts will be held on the Bijou Elementary Front Field from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The school is located at 3501 Spruce Avenue, South Lake Tahoe.
Travis and Jason Kelce headed to Lake Tahoe for American Century Championship

A note to Swifties - Taylor is on tour during the week of the tournament, with tour dates in Zürich and Milan.
Travis's teammate Patrick Mahomes will not be playing at Lake Tahoe this year due to his being in Paris, but the Kansas City tight end's brother Jason should be an entertaining cohort.
