The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public input on the proposed Fallen Leaf Lake Trail Access and Travel Management project. The project would improve the recreation experience for residents and visitors to the Fallen Leaf Lake area, while protecting the natural, cultural, and historic resources of the area.

Bear populations have surged so much that several states, including Nevada, Oklahoma and New Jersey, have started or expanded bear hunting seasons.
City to recycle old truck

At the Nov. 1 South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, there was a decision passed to use grant money from the state of California to purchase a new hybrid vehicle for use in the citywide recycling program.
The new Chevy Silverado hybrid is valued at $39,000, gets 20 miles to the gallon and will reduce emissions compared to the old truck currently in use. However, a lively discussion of whether the purchase would give the wrong impression regarding the city’s fiscal responsibility ensued.

TRPA Planner Earns Chamber’s Blue Ribbon Award

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency employee Gary Weigel was honored as the recipient of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce’s Blue Ribbon Award in the Public Agency Service category for his exemplary customer service as a Senior Planner at TRPA.
“I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when I found out I had been selected for a Blue Ribbon Award by the community,” Weigel said, “but also very excited. It’s a tremendous honor.”
TRPA’s Executive Director, Joanne Marchetta, agreed.

Police pepper spray and arrest passive students protesting at UC Davis
