Nevada Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki is Romney's man behind Lake Tahoe Olympic Bid

It’s been a long time since the Golden Days of Lake Tahoe. It was the 1960s, to be exact, after the 1960 Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley, when the Nevada-California ring of resorts caught on with nation and world. While always a relatively consistent draw for second homeowners, skiers, campers and gamblers, the destination clutch suffered its fair share of downturns during the A-frame era and general ups-and-downs of the ski industry through the years.

Nevada's Washoe County Critical in 2012 Presidential Contest

CARSON CITY — Washoe County Republican and Democratic Party leaders may disagree on who the best choice is for president, but they agree on one point — Washoe is the “battleground” county in the battleground state that is Nevada.
Clark County is expected to go big for Democrats and President Obama, while Nevada’s rural counties are expected to go strong for Mitt Romney. But Washoe County, where Republicans lead in voter registration by 3,700, has gone for both parties in past elections.

Reno and Carson City Observatories Offer Venus Transit Viewing

Two area observatories will offer the public an opportunity to see a celestial event with the planet Venus taking center stage in front of the sun. Just weeks after the solar eclipse, another adventure is unfolding in the sky, and the Jack C. Observatory at Western Nevada College in Carson City and the MacLean Observatory on the Redfield Campus at the University of Nevada, Reno will again offer front row seats to the show.

Latest from NASA as Venus continues transit

On Tuesday Venus will pass across the face of the sun, producing a silhouette that no one alive today will likely see again. See the latest Youtube clip from NASA's SOHO spacecraft below.

Transits of Venus are very rare, coming in pairs separated by more than a hundred years. This June's transit, the bookend of a 2004-2012 pair, won't be repeated until the year 2117. Fortunately, the event is widely visible. Observers on seven continents, even a sliver of Antarctica, will be in position to see it.
