Remains found in Douglas County identified as missing Minnesota man

Skeletal remains discovered in the northeast backcountry area of Douglas County on Feb. 22, 2012 have been identified as a 40-year-old Minnesota man, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Francisco Alejandro Lopez-Gonzalez was reported as a missing person out of Minnesota in June 2011. Gonzalez’ family has been notified of the discovery of his remains, said Sgt. Jim Halsey. The investigation is currently ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time, he said.

Nevada Governor to Extend Sunsetting Taxes Into Next Two-Year Budget To Avoid Education Cuts

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he will propose to extend a package of taxes now set to expire in June 2013 into the next budget to avoid further cuts to education, which he said cannot withstand further reductions.
To maintain a basically flat spending plan for the two-year budget that will begin on July 1, 2013, Sandoval said the modified business tax that was maintained at a higher rate for large businesses in the 2011 legislative session, along with a small increase in the sales tax, must be continued.

Tahoe Valley Elementary School was briefly locked down at around 10:30 a.m. after a report of a distraught man with a gun inside a home in the 800 block of Tahoe Island Drive.
The man walked out of a home, speaking on a phone, and was detained by South Lake Tahoe police and El Dorado County sheriff's deputies. According to police scanner traffic, Tahoe Valley school was locked down, briefly, as authorities circled the perimeter of the home, cutting off traffic in the area.
