Tahoe Orthopedics and Sports Medicine implements computerized concussion testing in area high schools
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 12/23/2011 - 10:40amApproximately 2 to 3.5 million sports-related concussions occur annually in the United States, of which 60,000 are sustained by high school athletes. Orthopedic physicians and the athletic training staff from Tahoe Orthopedics & Sports Medicine are working to combat the impact of concussions affecting young athletes in the region through a computerized test called ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment Testing).

Dry weather to persist through Christmas weekend, snow possible Tuesday

Lows tonight will drop into the single digits to lower teens across western Nevada, with lows below zero in the Sierra valleys. A warming trend will occur for the holiday weekend as high pressure moves over western Nevada. Highs Christmas Day will warm into the lower 50s. There is the potential for light rain and mountain snow next Tuesday through Thursday.
Crews respond to Kyburz, El Dorado National Forest fires
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 12/22/2011 - 3:03pmFirefighters were putting out hot spots this afternoon on a small fire between Highway 50 and Kyburz. According to Capt. Daniel Berlant with Cal Fire, there was a downed, live power line in the area. It was possible the power line was the origin of the flames but that wasn't clear yet, Berlant said. Dry and breeze conditions were also a concern to keep the quarter to half-acre fire from spreading.
