Motorcycle and large truck collide near Kirkwood
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 09/23/2011 - 1:47pmA motorcycle apparently collided with a large truck this afternoon in the Carson Spur area near Kirkwood Mountain Resort and State Route 88.
According to police scanner traffic, the motorcyclist was pinned underneath the truck, possibly a big rig. A CALSTAR air ambulance was dispatched to the accident scene. A ground ambulance was, at last report at around 2:40 p.m, to transport the downed cyclist to a zone cleared for CALSTAR to land.

Gas leak at lower Kingsbury Grade prompts 'small area' evacuation
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 09/23/2011 - 8:21amA natural gas leak, reported at around 8:50 this morning, has prompted the evacuation of a small area around the 200 block of S.R. 207 Kingsbury Grade, according to Tahoe Douglas Fire Chief Ben Sharit. The initial report came in from the contracting firm Peak Construction. It was reported as a 2-inch gas line leak. The leak was secured quickly by crews and Southwest Gas has arrived, Sharit said. The evacuation area are buildings at 290 Kingsbury Grade near the 7-Eleven.

Fuels reduction project impacts East Shore beach parking

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin fuels reduction and forest health thinning work near two East Shore beaches the week of Sept. 26, 2011. The project areas are located on National Forest System lands on approximately 15 acres near the Chimney Beach parking lot and 18 acres near Secret Harbor Beach on the Lake Tahoe’s East Shore.
