In keeping with Sugar Bowl Academy tradition, underclassmen, classmates, and alumni individually introduced graduating seniors before awarding them their diplomas. The speeches demonstrated the seniors' important leadership role in the SBA community and highlighted aspects of each graduate's personality and character.

Fire knocked down quickly at T's Mesquite Rotisserie
Submitted by paula on Sun, 06/26/2022 - 6:35pmINCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) responded to a commercial structure fire Sunday afternoon at 901 Tahoe Boulevard, T’s Mesquite Rotisserie. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office safely evacuated all occupants of the Incline Village restaurant.
The fire was knocked down quickly with damage contained to the area of origin.
NLTFPD thanks its agency partners Nevada Highway Patrol, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Nevada State Parks, and North Tahoe Fire Protection District.

Alpine County looking for forester to manage $1.815M post Tamarack Fire grant

These funds are for the purposes of private property, post-fire restoration, and cleanup. As a condition of the grant, Alpine County will contract with a registered professional forester to review funding requests, approve projects, conduct an environmental review and certify the completion of work. NDOT work zone updates for Lake Tahoe

Traffic in work zones will either be reduced to a single lane with flagger control or shifted lanes with reduced speeds. Drivers can expect up to 30-minute delay times. All work is weather and temperature permitting, and subject to change.

John Gomez, a 24-year resident of the South Shore, has opened the Tahoe Driving Academy. This is a wonderful opportunity for all Lake Tahoe South Shore children. Free food will be distributed weekly to children to ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals and snacks during the summer break from school. Children who have access to the free or reduced lunch program during the school year often have limited food resources during the summer, and the B&B Summer Program hopes to meet that need.
Fallon to host 1st annual rural-Nevada multi-faith dialogue

It will involve dialogue among Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i, Native-American faiths; and even include an Atheist thinker. Christian speakers will represent Roman Catholic, Protestant, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints traditions.
After presentations, diverse religious leaders will be open to questions by the public. The organizers plan to make this gathering an annual feature.
15 years since the Angora Fire - What has changed?
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/24/2022 - 11:03pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been 15 years since the Angora Fire swept through the North Upper Truckee and Angora Ridge neighborhoods of El Dorado County, taking with it 242 homes and 67 commercial structures as wind-driven flames burned through 3,100 acres.
It was a sunny afternoon on June 24, 2007, when the first calls of fire came in at 2:15 p.m. Within a few hours, the devastation was already evident but it was over a week before the fire was completely contained.

GENOA, Nev. - It has been 20 years since the statue of Snowshoe Thompson, the mail carrier of the Sierra, was dedicated in Mormon State Park in Genoa. The Friends of Snowshoe Thompson organization is holding a celebration of the statue on Saturday, June 25 in the park starting at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of life for Nina Eggen MacLeod at 11 a.m.
Speakers include author Frank Tortorich, Dr. James Duke, Lars and Craig MacLeod, Don Budy.
At noon there will be a visit from "Snowshoe" with lunch by Sierra Chef at 12:30 p.m.

Intermittent offramp closures on I-80 next week from Truckee to Kingvale

A $2.4 million project is addressing deteriorated interstate on- and off-ramps at various locations in Nevada and Placer counties. Ramps throughout the Sierra corridor may be closed intermittently for paving, joint sealing, striping, and concrete curing time.

Part-time South Lake Tahoe residents die in Washington rafting tragedy

The father has been identified as John Coleman. He and his family had a second home in the county area of the South Shore for over ten years, and neighbors are mourning the loss of members of what they said was a "fun-loving" family.

One "amazing dog" ready for forever home after five weeks on the run, two rescues, one escape
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/23/2022 - 10:00pmA stray dog that survived more than five weeks on her own, during which time she was hit by a car and suffered injuries, is finally rehabilitated and ready for adoption. The dog's name is Estrella and she was first spotted in Tahoe City back in February. It took several tries and several weeks for animal control to rescue her. During that time, she was reportedly hit by a car and suffered injuries. Now, after extensive physical and mental rehabilitation, the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe (HSTT) is thrilled to announce she is available for adoption.
County moves from Code RED system to El Dorado County Emergency Alerts

The El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services partnered with CalOES to bring a new system, El Dorado County Emergency Alerts. This notification service goes to residents and businesses by app, telephone, cell phone, text message, email, and social media when there is a threat to the health or safety of residents.

NEO Connect, a broadband consulting firm, has been retained to conduct the analysis and present recommendations. The City Council recognizes the importance of high-speed broadband to the community in order to improve employment, educational, and economic development opportunities. The study directly addresses the City Council’s Strategic Priority 1.1 “Broadband for All” initiative.

Tahoe Transportation District relaunches East Shore Express for 2022 Summer season

The free transit line provides beachgoers and trail users recreation access from Incline Village, along SR28 to Sand Harbor Lake Tahoe State Park, and back again.
Last year, TTD had to suspend the East Shore Express due to a staffing shortage on the heels of COVID-19 pandemic service suspensions.
The service runs a continuous loop daily, including holidays, from the old Incline Village school site at 771 Southwood Boulevard to Sand Harbor State Park on State Route 28.

Caltrans working on several road projects from South Lake Tahoe to Camino on US-50, expect delays

Construction continues on a $55.4 million safety project on Highway 50 from Still Meadows Road to upper Carson Road in Camino to build a continuous concrete median barrier, an undercrossing for access north and south of the highway, drainage improvements, a wildlife undercrossing, and a roundabout connecting to the new undercrossing.

Tahoe Douglas Fire allowing homeowners to have backyard charcoal and wood fires with permit and inspection

Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) allows residents to have backyard wood or charcoal fires with both an inspection and permit.
On a Red Flag day, permit or not, no fires are allowed.
TDFPD Fire Marshal Eric Guevin said by requiring an inspection and permit they are able to ensure the location and surrounding area of the home's BBQ or fire pit is safe and protected.

Wylder Resort Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series this coming Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. with a living history presentation by author and historian David Woodruff. This week, it is about "Snowshoe Thompson-Mailman of the Sierra.”
John “Snowshoe” Thompson carried the mail across the deep Sierra Nevada snow during the winter for 20 years. Carrying 80 pounds of mail over the 180-mile round trip in just five days on his hand-crafted snow skates (skis), with nothing more than a jacket, dried meat, and matches.

The board conducted a public hearing Tuesday and voted unanimously to approve the license for the bureau.
They will be conducting a Drone Skyshow for the Fourth of July celebration in Incline Village that is high-quality, innovative, environmentally sustainable, and fire-safe.
Free on-demand shuttle service being launched for South Shore residents and visitors
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/21/2022 - 6:25pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - The South Shore will soon have a new on-demand transit system serving the area from Al Tahoe Boulevard to the casino corridor. The launch of Lake Link, an app-based microtransit shuttle system will be on July 22.
Lake Link will be free to riders and will operate 365-days per year, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Funding for the shuttles is a collaboration of public and private partnerships, and is a requirement of the new events center at Stateline.

Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club holds new fundraising ball drop and golf tournament

Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club is hosting its new Charity Cup Golf Tournament Fundraiser this coming Saturday, June 25 at Genoa Lakes Golf Club.
To close out the shotgun format tournament there will be a Helicopter Golf Ball Drop. The helicopter will drop all sponsored golf balls above a designated course hole. The closest sponsored golf ball to the hole will win a week’s condo stay in Hawaii and $500.
Grand Jury Report finds no issues with El Dorado County jails or Juvenile Treatment Center
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/20/2022 - 9:47pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The 2021/22 Grand Jury report on the El Dorado County jails and Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) was released Monday, and they found no major issues at any of the three facilities.
They conducted its annual physical inspections of the sites in Placerville on January 5, 2022, and in South Lake Tahoe on November 10, 2021, including interviews with staff. It had been two years since a physical inspection was done as COVID-19 forced the inspections to be virtual in 2020-2021.

The 2022 Cannabis Revenue Grant Awards will be announced. City Council approved $400,000 to be dispersed through a grant program. This amount equals half of the cannabis revenue received by the City last year. More Here.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office and family members seek help in locating teen
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/20/2022 - 4:04pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is seeking information about the whereabouts of 15-year-old Matthew Jimenez. The teen was last seen on June 8 near Lampe Park.
Matthew is 5'11, 140 lbs, and has black/brown hair.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. on the 8th, Matthew was seen near Lampe Park and was spotted wearing a gray shirt, black shorts, an unknown color backpack, and a silver necklace, and was in possession of his electric bicycle.
Authorities believe that Matthew may be in the Indian Hills or Carson City area.
Journey of Hope team cycling across country and makes stop in South Lake Tahoe

With three routes kicking off on the West Coast, teams spend the summer crossing the country over a combined 12,000 miles with an arrival at the Capitol Lawn in Washington DC to mark the end of a life-changing event. Along the way, the team spreads the message of disability awareness through local media and makes stops at partner organizations where they deliver joy to their friends from the disability community.
Poet Laureate Begins Literary Tour of El Dorado County: Laureate Trail Visits Six Libraries Starting June 22

June 22, 2022 - 5:30pm After a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Laureate Trail has returned to El Dorado County. A collaboration between Arts and Culture El Dorado and the El Dorado County Library, the Laureate Trail sees El Dorado County Poet Laureate Lara Gularte visit all six libraries in El Dorado County for free poetry readings, workshops, open mics, and more. Lara will be joined on the Trail by Poets Laureate past and future, as well as special guests, including the winner of the 2023 El Dorado County Poetry Out Loud competition.
