Heavenly honors Lake Tahoe area high school grads with scholarships

For the ninth consecutive year, Heavenly Mountain Resort awarded $4,000 scholarships to five recent high school graduates, bringing the resort’s overall commitment to the Heavenly Mountain Resort Community Scholarship Program to $180,000. The scholarships are designed to help further the education of local area students.

Low pressure associated with a jet stream will pass over the Sierra today producing low humidity and gusty winds to 40 mph across Northeast California, the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Eastern Sierra. The combination of law humidity and wind will create critical fire conditions, according to the weather service.

Grants were awarded to 19 different projects. The announcement was made by Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki.
NCOT's Projects Relating to Tourism Grants program help fund infrastructure improvements that will attract visitors, and after a temporary suspension due to a decline in tourism revenues, the grants were reinstated this year.

Does it take a vision or does it start with a vision?
South Lake Tahoe, clearly a jewel in its own right, was feeling lackluster. There was no sense of place. No central gathering area. A lack of community, some said. It’s easy to pontificate on making things better – even easier to reflect on the good ole days.
But what wasn’t easy at all, was reaching consensus on what the passion of the people in a particular place would do with a prime piece of public open space and the funding to make it a special place.
