Mural Project spotlights talents of local artist and seeks to engage community

The white walls on the second floor, outside the banquet rooms of the Carson Nugget, are in the process of being transformed. Right now they contain the mural paintings of Kit Carson, V&T Railroad, Dat So La Lee, the Carson Mint, Carson Nugget, Roosevelt’s Speech Capital Building, Carson Brewery and Capital Building; but soon those walls could contain so much more.

“The hope is to show Carson City’s uniqueness as well as the love and pride we have for our home and community,” said Gardnerville artist Beverly Caputo.

That is why the Carson Nugget has launched a photo contest called “Carson Memories.”

Star Anderson, General Manager of the Carson Nugget said, “We are asking people to submit their photos. It can be a person, place or a thing. It can pre-date the 1900’s or be as recent as 2013. The only prerequisite is that it must represent what is near and dear to your heart about Carson City, the Carson Nugget or the area.” She added, “Beverly is the perfect artist to capture these memories and turn them into paintings that will be conversation pieces, unique to our community and enjoyed by the thousands who visit our banquet rooms each year.”

Beverly Caputo specializes in murals as well as portraiture art for both commercial and private clients with more than 30 years’ experience. Her work can be seen in a number of local and national places including; Cabela’s, Disney, Universal Studios, City National Bank, Carson Valley Inn, Douglas County Historical Society Museum, CommRow in Reno, Sharkey’s Casino, and Kirkwood Ski Resort to name a few.

She moved to the Carson Valley from LA in 2001.

“I consider this area to be my home, “she said adding, “I love what I do and I’m very honored to be a part of this community project.”
