International Human Rights Day Celebration
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 12/07/2023 - 1:22pm
549 Main St, Placerville CA
When: Sunday, December 10, 2023 2pm-4pm
December 10, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global
pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This landmark document enshrines the
inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, color,
religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or
other status. The Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris
on 10 December 1948 and sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally
protected. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.
Artists, students and residents of El Dorado County will gather at Placerville Town Hall to
celebrate this global pledge and the work being done in the county and around the world to honor
human rights. Art exhibits, performances, life testimony, poetry readings and much more will
take place throughout the day. Local students from Amnesty International will report on the work
they have done in their community and expand on their plans going forward to ensure universal
human rights are guaranteed for all residents in the county. Students from South Lake Tahoe
High School District will be in attendance with their art projects. The Keynote Speaker will talk
on the Human Right of Water.
Please join us in the historic town of Placerville and help celebrate human rights. Finger food
and beverages will be provided.
