Changes on the South Shore: Edgewood's new lodge, new look

Ground won't break until May on the new Edgewood Tahoe Resort but the golf course is already undergoing major changes to prepare for the big project. Trees have been cleared, the 9th hole has been reconfigured and made into a par 3, and a 10 foot tall fence is being erected around the construction site.
The new pier has already been constructed and will allow guests to boat to the resort.
LTCC Tapped to Join CA Community Colleges Online Education Initiative
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/10/2014 - 9:24pmLake Tahoe Community College has been chosen by the California Community Colleges’ Online Education Initiative (OEI) as one of eight colleges that will participate in the OEI’s full pilot launch, slated to take place from Fall 2014 through Spring 2016. LTCC was selected based on a number of criteria, including its accreditation standing, its well-established online degree programs, and its well-established professional development program to assist faculty with online education-oriented services and course design.
Highway 50 West of Lake Tahoe to be closed overnight for two weeks
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/04/2014 - 10:46pmConstruction on the Silva Valley interchange project in El Dorado Hills will affect travelers going to and coming from South Lake Tahoe in the late night hours.
All westbound Highway 50 lanes from Bass Lake Road to El Dorado Hills Boulevard are scheduled to be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday, Sept. 8-12. The westbound Bass Lake Road on-ramp will close an hour earlier and also reopen at 5 a.m. The following week, Sept. 15-19, the closure will shift to the eastbound lanes, again 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., with the Latrobe Road on-ramp closing at 10 p.m.
Lake Tahoe native mussels being relocated in order to protect species

Native to the western U.S., the river mussel is now a protected species due to their population being threatened by dams, habitat modification due to the disappearance of Lahontan Cutthroat Trout from the Upper Truckee and other river habitat changing occurrences.
Plastic Bag Ban headed to the Governor Brown's desk
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/30/2014 - 8:30amCalifornia may soon be the first state to have a ban on single use plastic bags.
A ban on single use plastic bags is already in place in South Lake Tahoe and 90 other cities and counties in the state of California, but that may soon change. If Governor Brown signs the bill that was sent to him on Friday, the whole state will have a ban on plastic bags for grocery stores and large pharmacies in 2015 and convenience stores in 2016.
Election picture clear with all candidates now known
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/15/2014 - 7:28amWith the filing deadline now passed, the list of candidates for South Lake Tahoe City Council and City Clerk, South Tahoe Public Utility Board and the Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees is now known. These positions, along with the El Dorado County Supervisor for Area 5 will all be voted by local voters on during the November 4.
Two Lake Tahoe School Board seats open; No candidates yet for Area 2

El Dorado County Supervisor Ray Nutting Ousted From Office
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/06/2014 - 11:19pmDuring Ray Nutting's sentencing on six misdemeanor charges stemming from loans received for the purpose of getting bailed out of jail, Judge Timothy Buckley ordered Nutting to vacate his County Supervisor seat for District 2.
Buckley also sentenced him to three years of probation and 30 days of community service.
Josh Kornbeck Named Youth of the Year by Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

As the new Youth of the Year for Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, 16-year old Josh is a true example of an extraordinary young man recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for his sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.
El Dorado County Lowers Some Building Fees by 25%
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/16/2013 - 4:39pmThe El Dorado County Board of Supervisors has lowered some building fees by 25% in order to facilitate economic development and encourage public safety.
Building Division fees for the building of an addition, deck, garage, granny flat and for remodeling are now reduced.
The new fees will start February 10, 2014 and be in effect until December 10, 2016.
Captain Randy Pershon appointed to Court Advisory Committee

This committee makes recommendations improving the processing of cases in drug courts, domestic violence courts, peer courts, and other community-based treatment courts. They also propose rules, standards, and forms; reviews and recommends legislation; identifies potential funding sources; oversees the treatment court grant process; and acts on assignments referred to it by the Judicial Council.
Douglas, Washoe counties and NDOT agree to Lake Tahoe sediment plan

South Lake Tahoe City Council members JoAnn Conner and Hal Cole sworn in

Hal Cole retained his City Council seat during the November 6th election and joining him is newly elected councilmember, JoAnn Conner. Both Cole and Conner will hold their seats in City Council through November 2016.
The newly seated Council voted by unanimous decision to elect Councilmembers Tom Davis as Mayor and Hal Cole as Mayor Pro Tem to serve a one year term in 2013.

A bachelor’s degree with Lake Tahoe Community College’s seal. That could be a reality for students graduating in 2016 if college President Kindred Murillo gets her way.
She would also like to turn the two-year institution into a destination college – as in people would move to South Lake Tahoe to go to college here.

Fallen Leaf trail and improvement plan continues to stir concerns
