Long before an exclusive enclave of homes were built at the base of Spooner Summit there were lumber mills, preparing the trees clear-cut around Lake Tahoe for lumber to support the hundreds of miles of silver mines in Virginia City during the Comstock days.

Two men who once served as America's chief executive visited Lake Tahoe and Nevada
in the late 1800s according to former Nevada State Archivist Guy Rocha. Both Ulysses S. Grant Rutherford B. Hayes were transported along the lake on the steamboat, Meteor.
