Boulder lands on roof of car on US50 west of Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/14/2021 - 12:30pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A driver heading westbound on US50 over Echo Summit got a little more than they bargained for Wednesday afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call at 1:30 p.m. January 13 from a person traveling on the highway that a rock "the size of a Yeti Cooler" was on the roadway, according to Officer Ruth Loehr. CHP responded and found not only the 2ft x 3ft boulder in the roadway, they also found the vehicle that it hit.
Lake Valley Fire releases holiday truck schedule

Due to COVID-19, the Holiday engine will not be handing out candy canes this year but all are welcome to wave and say hello from a safe social distance. Each night they start their trek between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Monthly gaming report: Casino revenues down In second full month of being reopened

This amounts to a 22.08 percent decrease compared to August 2019, when licensees reported a gaming win of $953,623,896, according to the monthly report released today by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Body found in Douglas County identified as missing Colorado man

South Lake Tahoe man arrested on 99 felony counts of suspected child molestation
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/19/2020 - 10:56amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After a three-month-long investigation into a suspected serial molester, a South Lake Tahoe man has been arrested.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) announced the arrest of Christopher Scott Flanders, a 51-year-old local man. Multiple alleged victims are from the South Lake Tahoe area, police said.
Acting on a warrant, Flanders was arrested on Wednesday, March 18 in the Placerville area with the assistance of the Sacramento PRCS Task Force. He is currently in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe with bail set at $2,000,000.
Monthly gaming report: Good January for Lake Tahoe casinos on south shore

Woman arrested on felony DUI charges after two-car collision in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/20/2019 - 6:38pm7:45 p.m.- A 44-year-old woman has been arrested on felony DUI charges after the Nisan XTerra she was driving collided with a Toyota Tundra on US50 and Ski Run Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe at 5:12 p.m. Friday, December 20.
She is currently at Barton Hospital being treated for an injury and to have her blood drawn (at her request). Once released she will be booked into the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe, according to SLTPD Sgt. Nick Carlquist.

The Peak resorts are located near major metropolitan areas, including New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Columbus, St. Louis, Kansas City and Louisville.

Emerald Bay boulder incident draws $50,000 fine for contractor and Caltrans

At that time, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) received a complaint about the contractors hired to build a retaining wall at Emerald Bay on SR89. In that complaint, a video was provided that showed equipment pushing a large boulder over the edge of the road as crews cheered. As the boulder rolled it took out or damaged several trees, including a majestic Sugar Pine.

At the end of the day Kasper Asgreen from Denmark, who rides for Belgium's Deceuninck – Quick – Step, is wearing the green leader jersey. Asgreen finished first, 6 hours, 17 minutes and 11 seconds after leaving Rancho Cordova.

US50 reopens after car hits boulder on Echo Summit
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/11/2019 - 2:35pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - At approximately 1:39 p.m. Thursday a boulder came off the mountainside right into the path of a pick-up truck traveling westbound on Highway 50 over Echo Summit near Johnson Pass Road.
The driver hit the boulder and his vehicle had to be towed from the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol in Meyers.
There were no injuries in the incident. As Caltrans was clearing the lane and the vehicle hooked up to be moved there was one-way traffic over the summit. All was cleared in under an hour.
Highway 50 is now open and free of controls.
