Benefit concert in South Lake Tahoe to raise funds for Butte Fire victims

The local production crew, Mindful Massive, is putting on a concert in South Lake Tahoe Friday night to help the victims of the Butte Fire. It will be held at the American Legion from 9 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Tyler Mikkelsen of Mindful Massive said they wanted to do something to help those that lost everything in last month's devastating fire that consumed 70,868 acres, destroyed 475 homes and 343 outbuildings, damaged 45 structures and killed two people. A friend of theirs lived in Mountain Ranch and lost his home and belongings.
Northern California fire update
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/21/2015 - 7:09pmThe Butte Fire near Jackson, CA continues to burn but is now 74% contained. So far, 70,760 acres have burned. The destructive and deadly fire destroyed 545 homes and 356 outbuildings, as well as damaging another 42 structures. Two civilians have died in the fire.

Butte Fire: Two Fatalities Confirmed, Containment Grows To 47 Percent
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/16/2015 - 10:18pm6:47 p.m. - Cal Fire says containment on the Butte Fire has grown to 47 percent, with acreage burned holding at 71,780 acres.
Damage assessment shows 233 residences, 175 outbuildings and 15 other structures burned in the fire, with 6,000 additional structures still threatened.
Officials ask that area residents remain vigilant, as the fire is still active in many areas. They also ask for people to assist by calling the appropriate authorities for specific situations:

South Lake Tahoe community coming together for fire victims

With the Butte Fire forcing hundreds out of their homes while destroying over a hundred of them, and burning tens of thousands of acres, people in that community are in need of assistance.
Enter into the picture Monica Nichols and dozens of other locals as they spearheaded a donation drive and are now taking them into the burn area.
Air quality in the unhealthy range in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/13/2015 - 4:58pmThe air quality in South Lake Tahoe dipped into the "unhealthy" range on Sunday, prompting some to wear protective mouth masks.
From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., air quality hit the worst levels of the day with a registered 134.5 Micrograms/Cubic Meter (ug/m3) according to the California Air Quality and Meteorological Information System (AQMIS).
This calculates to a 192 AQI which is in the "unhealthy" range. By 3 p.m. this lowered to 153 AQI, which is still in the same range, but South Lake Tahoe was back down into the "unhealthy for sensitive group" range by 5 p.m. with an AQI of
Smoke, rain and cooler temperatures in forecast for South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/13/2015 - 9:01amThere is a chance of thunderstorms and rain in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, how big of a chance differs between forecasters though. Accuweather is calling for a 60% chance of thunderstorms and rain in South Lake Tahoe, mainly between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Expected amounts of precipitation are small though, with .04 inches forecast.
The National Weather Service in Reno says the chance for isolated thunder and rain is 20% for both Sunday and Monday.
Expect smoke to remain in the Lake Tahoe basin until the weather conditions change.
Smoke fills Lake Tahoe Basin
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/12/2015 - 6:48pmSmoke from the Butte Fire burning near Jackson, CA filled the Lake Tahoe basin last Saturday afternoon.
The air quality index for South Lake Tahoe is measured on Sandy Way and remained in the moderate range as of 7 p.m.
This means, people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children are the groups most at risk. Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.
