South Lake Tahoe Labor Day traffic test to include full road closures
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/17/2019 - 6:31pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In an attempt to address traffic concerns on side roads in the Meyers area, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and El Dorado County (EDC) conducted a test and put up two road closures on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Barriers were placed at the intersections of Highway 50 and both Sawmill and North Upper Truckee roads in an attempt to keep westbound holiday traffic out of the neighborhoods and on the highway. In addition, they were also evaluating the traffic backup on both roads and the routing of traffic by directional apps like Waze and Google.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/08/2017 - 1:34pmTraffic heading west from South Lake Tahoe is once again creating a long line of vehicles from the area near Ernie's and Tahoe Cottage Inn on Highway 50 over to Echo Summit.
With the road closure on Lake Tahoe Blvd., traffic heading to South Upper Truckee Road is being diverted onto Sawmill Pond Road, adding to a jam at the intersection with Highway 50.
There is also traffic heading west on Pioneer Trail.
Caltrans crews were on Highway 50 over Echo Summit all night, keeping an eye on areas known for mud slides.
The Basic Speed Law Still Exists on US Highway 50
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 2:30pmThe South Lake Tahoe Police Department desires to share some important information with our public about the raising of speed limit on US Highway 50 through the city limits. Based upon the latest Caltrans traffic and engineering study, the speed limit will increase by 5 mph from what is currently posted. However, until the new speed limit signs are posted along US Highway 50, the existing speed limit signs are currently not enforceable, per se. While we are in this transition, we strongly encourage our residents and visitors to continue following the currently posted speed limit signs.
