Blue Angels flying through local skies for this weekend's Aviaion Roundup

The 2018 Aviation Roundup at the Minden-Tahoe airport will feature the US Navy Blue Angels flying team and 11 different flying acts this weekend, October 13 and 14.
Gates for the airshow will open at 10:00 a.m. on both Saturday & Sunday, and the airshow will start around 11:30. The starting time is subject to change due to scheduling and weather, so please plan on being ready by 11:00 am.
It wraps up between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
There are vendors, food and merchandise available at the event.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/10/2016 - 8:14pmA pilot took off from the airport in South Lake Tahoe on November 7 and headed northeast until he reached the site of Tesla’s Gigafactory 1 in Sparks, Nev., all caught on film.
“I recently had a chance to take a Cessna 172SP over to the Gigafactory 1 plant. This was shot with a GoPro III+ Silver and Nikon D3100. I’m not a professional photographer, just a pilot! Stopped at South Lake Tahoe (KTVL) airport for lunch, and then headed over to do a few orbits of the plant.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body of a man found Tursday near the site of a plane crash southwest of Lake Tahoe as Tyrell Kremer of Wilton, Calif.
Kremer, 52, was flying from Idaho to Jackson on Saturday, October 15 after what friends say was a weeklong hunting trip. Family and friends grew concerned Saturday afternoon when he hadn't returned as expected and official news of a missing aircraft were issued Saturday evening.

A missing aircraft and its pilot were located Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. in a rugged area of the Sierra Nevada southwest of Lake Schmidell, which is west of Maggie's Peak and Lake Tahoe.
Searchers found the wreckage as a result of a photograph taken by a Civil Air Patrol crew who was flying in the probable location of the missing aircraft. The coordinates from the photograph were passed along to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s ground team who hiked into the site and confirmed the crashed aircraft and a deceased male victim outside of the plane.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/17/2016 - 1:14pmPoor weather has hampered the search for a pilot and his Cessna, missing since Saturday when they were expected at a Jackson, Calif., airport. The unnamed pilot was flying from Idaho.
Aircraft from CHP and Civil Air Patrol being used for a low level visual search are unable to do so as they've been unable to a visual on the ground. Search and rescue teams from El Dorado County Sheriff's Office are actively searching for the plane and pilot on the ground. Radar analysis and air forensics teams are still able to assist the ground search.

5:00 p.m. update: According to the Acorn News in Jackson, Calif., the missing Cessna 182 is normally hangared in Amador County. Authorities Continuing Search for Missing Cessna 182. They said the plane was expected at Westover Field on Saturday.
The pilot left Idaho, headed to Jackson during a storm in the Sierra. Many pilots will take a southern route to Westover Field, which takes a plane between Highway 50 and 88. It is unknown at this time which route was taken.
Weather conditions continue to prevent search operations.

Kevin Dennis Golden, 39, of Reno, Nevada, was sentenced today to two years in prison for possession with the intent to distribute approximately 88 pounds of marijuana that he was attempting to fly in a private plane to Pennsylvania, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

A pilot and two passengers escaped injury Wednesday after a plane crash northeast of Spooner in the Kings Canyon area, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed.
The passengers of the aircraft were taken by Carson City Fire and Rescue to the staging area at the Kings Canyon Trailhead where they signed statements with the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Both declined comment. An official at the scene said the three had taken a flight to celebrate the birthday of a 23-year-old female passenger and that both passengers were shaken and didn't wish to speak. It is believed but not confirmed the flight originated from Lake Tahoe.

FAA says plane that left Minden-Tahoe Airport Wednesday is overdue
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 02/07/2013 - 11:23amUPDATE: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident of an overdue plane from the Minden-Tahoe Airport.
A Cessna model 172, red and white in color, bearing tail number N328SP, left the Minden Airport Wednesday at around 5 p.m. The plane was piloted by 46 year-old Keith Jorgenson of Gardnerville. Jorgenson was the sole occupant of the plane.
