Bijou Community School playground ribbon cutting ceremony

August 22, 2014 - 2:00pm Bijou Community School PTA is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playground that was built thanks to the generous donations of a multitude of community members, businesses, and foundations. This project has been the epitome of a community effort with over 40 donors helping the school's PTA raise over $100,000.
We wish to thank:

LTUSD Retirees Honored at School Board Meeting Tuesday

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation honored the seven school district employees who are retiring this year during a reception held at the school district board meeting Tuesday night.
Three were in attendance and they received an award and gift certificate to Sprouts: Steve Simmons, teacher at Mt. Tallac and employee for 25 years; Bonnie Oliver, preschool aide at Al Tahoe and employee for 16 years; and Judy Ward, bus driver for 9 years.

South Tahoe Now sent a questionnaire out to all of the candidates for El Dorado County Supervisor and Douglas County Sheriff. This is the last of the submitted responses. Candidates Sue Novasel, Kenny Curtzwiler and Angela Swanson were the only County Supervisor candidates to respond, and Douglas County Sheriff candidates Ron Pierini and Dave Brady were the only Sheriff candidates to respond. We thank those that took the time to reply.

Annual Celebration of Education in South Lake Tahoe

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation invites the community to its annual Celebration of Education. LTEF provided grants of over $44,000 for student activities in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District during the 2013/14 school year.
Join them on Wednesday, May 14th, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Lakeland Village Pavilion. There will be presentations by local students, refreshments and entertainment. This is a free event for the entire family to see the great things that are happening in our school district through the support of our local education foundation.
South Lake Tahoe City Councilwoman Angela Swanson Cleared of Wrongdoing by DA's Office

The El Dorado County District Attorney's Office cleared South Lake Tahoe City Councilwoman Angela Swanson of any criminal wrongdoing in a letter sent to the City Council.
No public announcement was made to the media and the DA's office hasn't responded to a request by SouthTahoeNow.com to see a copy of the letter.
Angela Swanson Announces Run for El Dorado County Board of Supervisors

South Lake Tahoe Councilwoman Angela Swanson has declared her candidacy for El Dorado County Supervisor District 5. "There is no better time to jump in," said Swanson of her announcement. "I am in the final year of my council term and will leave office having accomplished many of my goals and with an in-depth knowledge of the key issues affecting the district." Swanson cites economic redevelopment, smart growth and community investment as her top priorities along with building cohesiveness within the newly expanded district.

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation will have its annual signature fundraiser, The Fall Food Fest, on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Harvey’s Convention Center. This fun community event will feature great food by local restaurants, beer, wine, tequila, and vodka tasting, silent and live auctions with wonderful donations by local businesses, and live music. The money from this fundraiser is used to fund over $50,000 in grants that are given to LTUSD schools during the school year.

Livestrong, American Century give $100,000 to South Lake Tahoe area nonprofits

“We’re fortunate to have the support from LIVESTRONG, NBC Sports and American Century Investments to assist to the local community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the LTVA in a news release. “In addition to an outstanding event which attracts visitors, our 22-year partnership also helps local groups in need.”

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation's annual Food Fest will be Saturday, October 8, 6:30 to 10 PM, at Harrah's Convention Room. More than 18 local eateries plus area beer and wine suppliers will be serving there. Also, there will be a silent and live auction with items ranging from art to food to exotic vacation accommodations. Advance tickets are $35 each, available at each local LTUSD school, at the LTUSD District Office on Al Tahoe Blvd., and at the Fox gas station on Highway 50 at Takela.
