Sierra House Elementary planning to reopen completely this week
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/29/2019 - 9:42pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Displaced students from Sierra House Elementary School are expected to be able to return to their home campus this week. Though the exact date is yet unknown, Principal Karin Holmes sent a letter to parents to give them the much-awaited news.
Belfor Construction is finalizing construction in the multi-purpose room while mantenance and custodial staff are wiping down dust, cleaning carpets and bathrooms, and testing will be conducted on water, HVAC and fire systems.
City approves redesigned fire inspection procedures and fees

During Tuesday' City Council meeting, Kevin Fabino, Director of the Development Services Department, presented the new Fire/Life Safety Inspection Program, something all South Lake Tahoe businesses must participate in annually for the safety of their customers and staff. The SLT Fire Department conducted the inspections until 2011, but they were suspended due to staffing shortages until 2015 when a fire inspector was hired for Fabino's department.
City to start annual fire inspections of local businesses
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/11/2016 - 6:53pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe sent out emails to local businesses this week, advising them it is time for their required annual life and safety inspections of all existing commercial buildings which, among others, are used to sell merchandise, public assembly, hotels and motels.
Travis Taylor, the City's Fire Inspector, has begun the drop-in inspections which can take place Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
South Lake Tahoe creates new fire inspector position
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/17/2015 - 10:11pmThe South Lake Tahoe Fire Department has been unable to keep up with completing the duties of fire inspections due to reduced staff and an increased work load for the busiest fire department in the basin.
When the position of Fire Marshall was eliminated during 2011 budget cuts the tasks fell upon the fire department. SLT Fire Chief Jeff Meston said that his department currently lacks the expertise to complete the fire inspection duties.
