May 3, 2016 (All day) CASA is recruiting community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children in South Lake Tahoe’s local court system. CASA training is scheduled to begin May 3.
Op/Ed: SLT should pass a bond to help children in foster care

Some children live a life characterized by habit and routine. Imagine them being forced to leave their life behind all because there wasn’t enough space and funding. This is what foster children in Lake Tahoe are forced deal with. Primarily, SLT should pass a General Obligation Bond, and, though the cost of raising a child is exorbitant, this cost could be ameliorated by support from passing a General Obligation Bond measure.
On any given day there are 100 South Lake Tahoe kids living away from their parents

The phone rings late one evening. The person at the other end of the line asks if there is a foster family available for one child for the night.
The person who answered the phone is Megan Ciampa, Regional Manager for Sierra Child & Family Services who is based in their South Lake Tahoe office. She says the hardest part of her job is to say "no" to phone calls like that. Just this week she's had to say "no" to three children and it was only Tuesday night when we talked. "Nothing hurts me more than to say no."
Lake Tahoe agency helps families provide for a better Christmas

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency staff dug into their wallets and scoured shopping and grocery stores continuing the tradition of bringing a little cheer to local children and families in need over the holidays.
This year staff provided gifts of clothes and toys to 35 foster children ages 4 – 17 through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
