Families, art and music lovers, and history buffs can expect a spectacular season of entertainment on the shore of Lake Tahoe at this year’s Valhalla Arts, Music & Theatre Festival, June 17 – August 26, 2015. Free music on the lawn, boot stomping roots music in a 1920’s boathouse, classic theatre productions, outdoor art camps for kids, cultural dance performances and fine art shows are some of the many highlights that await 2015 festival goers. For the past year, Terri Arnold of South Lake Tahoe has been creating promotional videos for the Carson Valley Story Teller series. Each of the nine completed videos (three are still in post production), show Arnold as she shows viewers all they can do in the area. She doesn't show you in the normal way either, everything is done while on a horse named Meha. They can all be seen on the Carson Valley Visitor Authority's You Tube page.

The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival," in collaboration with Carson City, is proud to present five of several bands at the Nevada Sesquicentennial Fair in Fuji Park on Saturday, August 2. "Jazz & Beyond" runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 17 and features over 50 events, mainly in the downtown Carson City area.

The five "Jazz & Beyond" bands at the Fair on August 2 are Sons of Slide Mountain, RVGS Tantalus, Lynne Colvig Latin Jazz, the Reno Jazz Orchestra with singer Jackie Landrum, and the St. Christopher Project, featuring the music of Tom Waits.

The Friends of the Library presents an evening with Linda Chorney, Grammy Nominee and author on June 17 at the South Lake Tahoe Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Chorney made history as the first Independent artist without a label, publicist, or manager, to be nominated for a Grammy in a category of legends, like Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson. The gatekeepers of the industry were not happy, and did what they could to undermine her nomination and career. But they didn't know who they were dealing with. Chorney fights back with a delicious sense of humor.

Brit-bending humor mashed with acerbic pop culture shots extending coast to coast and across-the-pond will land at Lake Tahoe, July 27, when comedic actor Russell Brand takes the stage at Lake Tahoe’s MontBleu Resort, Casino and Spa.

The evening promises plenty of potty-mouth pranking, self-deprecating barbs and wicked rantings to match Brand's signature big hair in this one-night-only, laughter-fueled romp on the MontBleu Theater stage. The mature-audience-only show begins at 9 p.m. with tickets at $55 to $75 available through Ticketmaster.com or the MontBleu Box office, 888-829-7630.

The Friends of the Library are proud to present,Todd Borg, author of the award-winning Owen McKenna Tahoe Murder Mystery Thrillers. Todd will discuss his newest book, Tahoe Chase, and his writing methods with intrigue and humor. He will have all of his books available for purchase and signing.

To kick off our new season of presentations, on April 16, 2013 at 6 PM, the South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library will present Suzanne Roberts. Ms. Roberts is the author of the memoir "Almost Somewhere: Twenty-Eight Days on the John Muir Trail", winner of the 2012 National Outdoor Book Award.

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency employee Jeff Cowen was honored as the recipient of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber and Resort Association’s Employee of the Year Award for his outstanding work as TRPA’s Community Liaison.
“I was shocked and truly honored to receive this recognition,” Cowen said about the award. “I am lucky in my job because I get to inform the community about all the great work being done by TRPA staff. I know I share this award with them,” he said.

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency employee Gary Weigel was honored as the recipient of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce’s Blue Ribbon Award in the Public Agency Service category for his exemplary customer service as a Senior Planner at TRPA.

“I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when I found out I had been selected for a Blue Ribbon Award by the community,” Weigel said, “but also very excited. It’s a tremendous honor.”

TRPA’s Executive Director, Joanne Marchetta, agreed.

Florence Donovan-Gunderson and her husband Wally Gunderson, who split their time between Southern California and their home in the Tahoe Keys, were having breakfast at IHOP in Carson City Tuesday morning when a gunman shattered their lives forever.

According to a family friend, Florence was killed inside the restaurant, along with three Nevada National Guard members, while Wally was wounded. A man interviewed by KRNV 4 described how he applied first aid to Wally, while his wife was obviously killed instantly.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office held a news conference at 9 a.m. this morning to officially release the names of the victims.

Suzy Krzaczek, a teacher at South Tahoe Middle, said her and the victim's families had been close friends for more than 30 years. She said that Wally had called her mother yesterday from the hospital to take care of the couple's dog before he was wheeled into surgery.
