These physicians will expand community access to care, a priority of Barton’s in response to its Community Health Needs indicating access to health services being a top concern of surveyed residents in the local area.

Registration open for South Lake Tahoe kindergarten and pre-kindergarten
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/04/2020 - 10:07amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even though schools are not currently open, registration is underway for kindergarten and Transitional kindergarten in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD).
To be eligible for kindergarten enrollment a child must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2020. If the child will be five years of age between September 1, 2020, and December 2, 2020, they qualify for Transitional Kindergarten (TK); a two-year Kindergarten program located at Tahoe Valley Elementary School.

Registration for kindergarten students in Lake Tahoe Unified School District for the 2019/20 school year will be held April 29-May 10, 2019 for Tahoe Valley and Sierra House elementary schools. For those enrolling in the Two-Way Immersion program at Bijou and wanting to enter the lottery for enrollment at Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School, the deadline is March 22.

Schools remind parents of new immunization rule for California

The law eliminates exemptions based on personal beliefs, including religious beliefs, for the vaccines that are currently required for entry into child care or school, kindergarten through grade 12.
New community health nurse hired for Douglas County
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/02/2016 - 8:59amCatherine "Cat" Fuller has been selected for the Community Health Nurse/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) position at the Douglas County Community Health Clinic.
After a nationwide recruitment, Carson City Health and Human Services along with Douglas County selected Fuller which included an interview process which began in February, 2016 and included a panel of nursing, social services, and administrative leadership from the Carson City and Douglas County Community Health and Social Services agencies.
LTUSD School Board: Immunizations, pay raises, improvements and Nevada student plan

Board members will be addressing the new state law concerning immunizations, new lights for the soccer field at South Tahoe Middle School, a conditioning room and new flooring at South Tahoe High, student privacy, finances, a 4.5% raise for employees, and discuss a tuition agreement with Douglas County Schools. The meeting begins at the District Office at 5:00 p.m. with closed session, with the public portion beginning about 6:00 p.m.

Even though there are no cases in El Dorado County as of yet, the cases in Washoe County and Bay Area are of concern.

According to The Joint Commission report released on November 13, Barton Hospital is one of 1,224 hospitals that achieved the 2013 Top Performer distinction.
Enrollment up for South Lake Tahoe schools
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/29/2014 - 10:46pmThe first week of school in South Lake Tahoe is in the books, and the early numbers show that enrollment is up for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District's seven schools.
Many students had to miss the first day of school since they didn't have their paperwork and immunizations completed, which are both required to attend local schools.
Angie Keil, the Public Information Officer for LTUSD, said that it was a hectic first week of school but so far the enrollment numbers show that there are 3,877 students in school. This is up by 156 from the end of school figures from June.
Whopping Cough on the Rise in South Lake Tahoe and Rest of County
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/23/2014 - 8:29pmWhooping cough has made an alarming resurgence across the county this year, prompting health officials to call for booster shots for children and adults over the age of 11 as well as up to date immunizations for infants.
Local health officials have seen more than double the normal number of pertussis (whooping cough) cases this year. There have been six reported cases in South Lake Tahoe and four on the west slope of El Dorado County. Statewide there have been 3,458 cases since January 1.

Barton's Occupational Health Services Move to Stateline
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/02/2014 - 8:10pmBarton Health’s Occupational Health Services has moved over to Nevada. Formally located at Barton Hospital, the medical office has relocated to the Stateline Medical Center at 155 Highway 50, in Suite 203 (second floor).
Occupational Health Services, OHS, provides services for businesses to help improve the health, safety and environment of people at work. Services include workers compensation treatment, physicals, and employment health tests and screenings. Preventative programs are also available, including educational seminars, wellness screenings, and work-related immunizations.
Lake Tahoe Community College Offers a Learn Spanish Abroad Program

The program is open to anyone who is at least 18 years of age, and participants do not have to be current LTCC students. All levels of Spanish language learners are welcome to experience the program.
