Cabin west of Lake Tahoe suffers total loss in fire
Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/13/2019 - 2:22pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A home at the intersection of Highway 50 and Sierra-at-Tahoe Road in the historic community of Phillips is a total loss after a fire ripped through it Friday night.
At 11:15 p.m. on April 12, Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) crews were called out to the scene along with several other agencies. Upon arrival, they found the home fully engulfed. Inside the home had been two women, one male, two dogs and two cats.
The male was transported to Barton Hospital with smoke inhalation and one cat was lost to the fire.
Fire displaces four families from Kingsbury Grade complex
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/22/2019 - 7:33pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Four families are displaced this evening after fire significantly damaged two units of a Kingsbury Grade area fourplex.
On Friday, February 22 at just before 5:00 p.m., crews from Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) responded to a residential structure on Tina Court at the top of Kingsbury Grade. Upon arrival, they found an active fire and called in the East Fork Fire and South Lake Tahoe Fire departments as backup.
All four units were occupied at the time and one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
James Fire between Genoa and Carson City burns 260 acres, at 30% containment

Tonight, the fire was mapped at 260 acres and is currently 30 percent contained. The fire was caused by heavy equipment working on a new home under construction The fire burned 163 acres of private and 107 acres of Bureau of Indian Affairs lands, but threatened lands
managed by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The East Fork Fire Protection District was in unified command with the U.S. Forest Service.
Smoke detectors: Do you know your expiration date?

Even if you change your batteries in the old style alarm annually, their life expectancy is still ten years. The new sealed smoke detectors which are required in new building codes require no battery change but they too are expected to only last ten years.
County letter to Cal Tahoe JPA: We want uninterrupted EMS services
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/06/2016 - 8:04pmSouth Lake Tahoe Fire Chief Jeff Meston and the City's representatives on the Cal Tahoe JPA have repeated several times publicly that the City will not leave the area stranded without adequate ambulance service when they pull out of the Cal Tahoe JPA. Both Meston and City Councilmember Tom Davis, who sits on the JPA board, said the City will continue to supply ambulance personnel for at least 90 days after their original termination date of April 15 to ease the transition of EMS services to Lake Valley Fire Department.
Tahoe Queen gets stuck: 258 passengers transported to safety
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/04/2014 - 7:39pmWhat started off as a leisurely 90 minute cruise on the Tahoe Queen turned into quite the adventure for passengers on board Monday afternoon.
The boat was about 30 minutes into its Emerald Bay cruise when it became stuck on a sandbar. At about 3:30 p.m., South Lake Tahoe Fire Department received a call that the Tahoe Queen was stuck off the Regan Beach shore. It is not known at this time why emergency personnel weren't called to the scene until 90 minutes after the Tahoe Queen got stuck.

South Lake Tahoe appoints Bruce Martin as interim fire chief

“I am very excited to welcome Chief Martin to lead, encourage and support our dedicated team of fire fighters,” said Kerry. “Chief Martin’s long and exemplary career in fire service provides him with a platform to be an excellent leader as the Interim Fire Chief.”
