South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting Tuesday: Tax increase and Grand Jury on agenda

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next meeting of the South Lake Tahoe City Council will be on Tuesday, July 14 starting at 9:00 a.m. It will be a virtual meeting and log on/comment instructions are at the end of the story.
On the agenda:
Council will vote on a measure, that if approved by voters on November 3, will add a local one-cent sales tax for general city purposes. There has been outreach done with local residents and finding out what their highest priorities are, and this proposed tax increase would meet those requests:
Tahoe Truckee Snapshot Day

May 19, 2018 - 9:00am Join the fun as we capture the water quality of the Tahoe Truckee Watershed through this hands-on monitoring event. Meet at Lake Tahoe Community College Aspen Room Saturday, May 19 at 9 am. Teams led by trained team leaders will then go out to local streams and rivers throughout South Tahoe to collect data to create a snapshot in time of water quality. The data collected can be used for restoration projects and overall watershed protection.
Wear layers, sunglasses, sun hat and sunscreen. Be prepared to possibly wade in the water. Bring a reusable water bottle.

Community members to take snapshot of Lake Tahoe water quality after record snowpack

The local community and visitors will be taking part in the League to Save Lake Tahoe's 17th annual Snapshot Day on Saturday, May 20 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. During this annual citizen science monitoring event, community members will collect water quality samples from dozens of Lake Tahoe’s south shore tributaries.
Caltrans wraps up 2016 roadwork season in Lake Tahoe, prepares for major projects in 2017

Approximately $158 million was spent on Lake Tahoe water quality improvement projects around Lake Tahoe in 2016, and Caltrans is not done.
In 2017 two major projects will get underway, one on each end of the lake.
During the busy 2016 season, Caltrans and its contractors completed work on two projects on State Highway 89 and made significant progress on a third.

Controversial Martis Valley West project approved by Placer County Supervisors

The Placer County Supervisors today approved one portion of the controversial Martis Valley Project on 1,052 acres adjacent to the Northstar California Resort, west of State Route 267.
Known at Martis Valley West, the project will add residential and commercial uses while permanently preserving 6,376-acres known as the East Parcel. Even though the acres will be preserved, 760 units and 6.6 acres of commercial area previously approved for the East via the Martis Valley Community Plan will be transferred to the West Parcel.
Lake-saving incentives now part of Lake Tahoe Regional Plan
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 06/23/2013 - 11:06pmNew ordinances regarding land coverage at Lake Tahoe came into effect June 19 following final approval of a key water quality plan by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and EPA announced recently.
The action updates the Clean Water Act Section 208 Lake Tahoe Water Quality Management Plan — last fully updated in 1988. The 208 Plan provides a comprehensive framework for water quality management in the Lake Tahoe basin and includes provisions for land coverage limits.
State water board OKs multi-state plan to protect Lake Tahoe
