Sugar pine seedlings to be handed out to students at South Lake Tahoe elementary schools

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A team of volunteers will be handing out sugar pine seedlings to students at four South Lake Tahoe school sites on Friday, April 24.
The Sugar Pine Foundation has given a box of seedlings to Bijou Community School, Sierra House Elementary, Tahoe Valley Elementary, and South Tahoe Middle School. The free seedlings will be given out when students pick up their meals between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. while supplies last.
At Tahoe Valley, TRex will be on hand to hand out the sugar pines, and at the Middle School, meet Hans the service dog.

They have 2,000 more to distribute on Saturday, April 25 at 9:00 a.m. while supplies last, except at the Mountain Hardware location.
Tahoe Douglas Rotary donates $20,000 to local nonprofits amidst COVID-19 emergency
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/10/2020 - 12:37pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Due to the catastrophic impact of COVID-19, the Rotary Club of Tahoe-Douglas announced its immediate initial commitment and disbursement of $20,000 in cash grants to four South Lake Tahoe Community proactive support agencies - Tahoe Magic, Christmas Cheer, Giving Angels and Bread & Broth.
The club has been serving the South Shore community since 1965 and just completed an online auction in lieu of their normal annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration.
Tahoe Chamber hosts virtual Town Hall with Barton Health

The Tahoe Chamber is holding another Virtual Town Hall on Friday, April 10, this time with Dr. Clint Purvance, CEO of Barton Health, and Chris Kiser, Executive Director of the Barton Foundation.
From 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tahoe Chamber CEO Steve Teshara will lead the conversation as they discuss the hospital's efforts to combat the coronavirus crisis, the COVID-19 Response Fund, and what the community can do to mitigate the spread.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Chamber is holding its second Virtual Town Hall meeting in as many weeks on the local response to the COVID-19 crisis response.
Last week, Chamber CEO Steve Teshara hosted South Lake Tahoe Mayor Jason Collin. On Friday, March 27, he will host El Dorado County District 5 Supervisor Sue Novasel, and the County's Health Officer, Dr. Nancy Williams. The event is on the Zoom platform from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Love of dance helping South Lake Tahoe youth cope with coronavirus seclusion
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/25/2020 - 10:09amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Students enrolled at Marcia Sarosik Dance Studio in South Lake Tahoe cannot attend classes in person due to coronavirus restrictions, but they are still enjoying their love of dance with online dance classes.
Marcia Sarosik, better known as Ms. Marcia, has been teaching dance in the community for 41 years and this is the first time she's had to close the studio for an extended period. One of her former students, Chelsea Wightman, created a program for dancers to log onto to stay connected to the studio on James Avenue.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Chamber and City of South Lake Tahoe will hold a virtual Town Hall meeting for businesses on the local response to COVID-19.
Mayor Jason Collin and Tahoe Chamber CEO Steve Teshara will address the City of South Lake Tahoe and the business community’s response to COVID-19 via Zoom on Friday, March 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The public will have a chance to ask questions.
The virtual meeting is limited to the first 100 people who log on or call in.

Prescribed fires to continue around Lake Tahoe

Smoke may be visible.

Moose Lodge raises $14,000 for South Lake Tahoe Cancer League during Longest Day of Golf
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/02/2019 - 12:35pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - From sunup to sundown, golfers recently hit the links at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League. Sponsored by the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe for 14 years, the Longest Day of Golf raised $14,000 to go to help local cancer patients.
On Friday a check was presented by tournament organizer Mary Luckel to the Cancer League during a barbeque at the Moose Lodge. The men and women of the Moose Lodge, the golf course and many local businesses helped the league during their Longest Day of Golf.

Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen coming to Lake Tahoe

The celebrated multi-Michelin star chef and television personality will be opening the third restaurant in his chain inside the historic Sage Room at Harveys Lake Tahoe. It is planned to debut in late 2019.
The Sage Room isn't going away though, it's moving upstairs to the 19 Kitchen & Bar location.
Similar to the other Hell's Kitchen restaurants, design and menu elements will be pulled directly from the long-running hit FOX reality show.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office nabs three on stolen vehicle and drug charges
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/22/2019 - 12:59pmMINDEN, Nev. - Three California residents were arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) on Sunday, July 21 at the Power Dam camping area.
Jeremy Stritenberger, 43, and Riki Scibelli Eltingham, 40, were arrested after a stolen Toyota Tacoma was found at the camping area on Washoe Road. The Toyota and a log splitter were reported stolen in Yuba City, Calif. Deputies located large amounts of property and personal effects inside the vehicle that they believe to be stolen in separate crimes.

Former South Tahoe High Teacher loses cancer battle
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 07/17/2019 - 9:38pmVali Dees, beloved wife and daughter, passed away at her home in South Lake Tahoe this July 7th, 2019 at 6:45 PM. She was attended by her husband, Jeff Davies, and her mother, Helen Valborg, when she finally succumbed to the cancer she had been so determined to overcome. Her death deprives the world and all who knew her of a bright and healing light.

20,000 miles pedaled during Lake Tahoe Bike Challenge
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/27/2019 - 4:27pmDuring the first two weeks of June, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition teamed up to lead the 14th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge. 285 people took the challenge and biked 20,420 miles at Lake Tahoe.
The basin-wide challenge is a friendly competition that encourages individuals and teams to track trips and miles on their bikes. Starting June 1 and running through June 14, Tahoe Basin bikers prevented an estimated 6,945 pounds of carbon dioxide from escaping into the atmosphere.
