America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride and Tour de Tahoe postponed
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/17/2020 - 11:55amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The organizer of the 29th annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride and the 18th Tour De Tahoe has announced the 2020 events will not happen. Bike the West tried to merge the two popular rides after the America's Most Beautiful was postponed earlier this year. They were to take place on September 13 but current COVID-19 restrictions and setbacks with reopening phases governed by local, county and state health agencies have led them to postpone and move to 2021.

Originally set for Sunday, June 7, it has been rescheduled to combine with the 18th annual Tour de Tahoe, set for Sunday, September 13, 2020. This due to the uncertainty of current and changing CDC coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions and mandates by national, state and county health agencies.

SLTFR Captain Leslie Asbury honored
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/03/2018 - 8:43amCaptain Leslie Asbury of South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) was honored during Tuesday's City Council meeting after graduating from the United States Fire Administration National Fire Academy Managing Officer Program. It was a two-year commitment for Asbury.
"We are very fortunate to have a committed and dedicated fire officer within our organization," said SLTFR Chief Jeff Meston. "We are honored to work with her."

Sierra-at-Tahoe is holding "Jammin 4 Tash" on Saturday, January 20 to honor the late Natasha "Tash" Sagucka who died from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on November 4, 2017 at the age of 24.
"From the time she was two years old till her last days on this earth she found peace, love and light on the mountains," was stated on Sagucka's obituary. "She thrived from the energy of slashing through the trees and sliding on the rails just perfectly."
26th annual America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride in Lake Tahoe Sunday

"Imagine the scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe with its crystal clear blue waters surrounded by towering majestic snow capped peaks. Imagine being able to ride a bicycle around its 72-mile shoreline or a 100-mile century ride," said Event Director Curtis Fong.
The ride isn't a race, but a fun ride and is fully supported with volunteers manning rest stops along the way with food and beverage.
SLT Captain Asbury climbs 69 flights of stairs in Seattle fundraiser
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/21/2017 - 6:57pmIt was a task most wouldn't think of attempting, climbing 69 flights of stairs in the fastest time possible. If that weren't enough of a vigorous endeavor, attempt the climb in full firefighting gear and breathing apparatus.
That's 1,356 steps and 788 vertical feet in the second tallest building west of the Mississippi. All accomplished by carrying an 50-60 pounds of extra weight, and all in the name of charity.

All 3,500 spots have been filled by riders participating in the 72-mile around the lake ride, the 100-mile Century ride and the 35-mile fun ride which includes a boat cruise.

23rd Annual America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride on Sunday
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/31/2014 - 8:26pmAmerica's Most Beautiful Bike Ride isn't your normal Sunday bike ride unless you normally ride around Lake Tahoe with 3,000 of your friends. The annual bike ride has been bringing riders to Lake Tahoe annually for the past 22 years.
This year's 23rd Annual event is on Sunday, June 1. With the temporary closure of the Horizon for remodeling, the staging for the ride has moved across the street to the MontBleu.

Sierra Nevada Cancer Center is a state-of-the-art oncology and hematology facility now offering treatment in five locations including Carson City, Fallon, Gardnerville and Sparks. The South Lake Tahoe facility will expand the reach of Sierra Nevada Cancer Center making cancer treatment more convenient and closer to home for those living at the Lake.
