Former South Lake Tahoe Fire Captain Mark McLeod Wygant was sentenced in U.S. District Court today to 10 years in prison for transportation of child pornography

Wygant, 46, plead guilty in December.

Following an FBI and SLT Police Department investigation, Wygant was a
arrested on Jan. 29 2015 and has been in custody ever since. He had been immediately placed on administration leave but resigned just days after his arrest.

Former South Lake Tahoe Fire Captain Mark McLeod Wygant, 46, pleaded guilty in federal court today to transportation of child pornography.

Following an FBI and SLT Police Department investigation, Wygant was a

"I am pleased that Mr. Wygant plead guilty to his crime and the punishment will now in the hands of the criminal justice system," said SLT Fire Chief Jeff Meston.

Mark Wygant, the South Lake Tahoe Fire Captain who is facing federal charges of possessing child pornography, resigned Wednesday according to City officials.

On January 29, 2015, Wygant was arrested following a federal investigation into his receiving child pornography. He was placed on paid administrative leave at the time but with his resignation he terminates the paid status.

A large scale disaster is about to hit South Lake Tahoe. Sirens are blaring, emergency personnel are responding to the airport, screaming people are seriously injured while others cannot be saved, a triage is set up and an incident command center has been set up in the City Council chambers. A large airplane has just crashed with hazardous cargo on board at the Tahoe Valley airport.

Premonition? No. It's a planned emergency drill that will take place on Monday, August 25.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Department raises $6,000 for St. Baldrick's Foundation

South Lake Tahoe Firefighters participated and raised $6,000 in the second annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation event in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, March 8. The St. Baldrick’s foundation was formed in 2005 and surpassed $100 million in donations last year for childhood cancer research across the nation. The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department put together one of several teams from the community who all rallied together to raise money.
