SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Working closely with state and county health agencies in a regional response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Barton Health is preparing for an anticipated patient surge by more than doubling its hospital bed capacity as well as expanding its facilities to accommodate patients who may be infected by the virus.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barton Health continues its expansion of medical imaging technology, investing in the latest equipment that enhances services, expands care, and improves the patient experience. The acquisition of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system has equipped Barton to now offer advanced MRI prostate and breast screenings. In addition, Barton’s Nuclear Medicine Suite recently completed a $1.2 million remodel to accommodate a new hybrid SPECT/CT scanning system that provides a new view on health issues within the body.

The grand hall at MontBleu Casino Resort has been turned into a holiday paradise, a winter wonderland with the main attraction being the specialty Christmas trees.

On Thursday, local celebrities and media strolled by each of the designer trees, selecting those that won top honors of Most Elegant, Best Theme, Most Creative and Best of Show.

The excellent work on each made it almost impossible to come up with a winner, but four were chosen after much deliberation. Each tree will be paired with a special prize package during a live auction at Saturday's Gala.

Join a panel of speakers from Barton Health for a discussion on concussions on Wednesday, September 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Community College Board room.

Dr. Terry Orr, Dr. Jeremy Vanderhurst and Dr. Tracy Protell will be joined on the panel by speech therapist Susanne Bull and Traci Fogliani.

As they've done on six previous occasions, the City of South Lake Tahoe and Barton Healthcare System (Barton) will be teaming up again in order for the hospital to issue $20 million in bonds.

There is no risk to the City. They are simply acting as the conduit so Barton can issue tax-free bonds, reducing their interest charges by 1.5% to 2%.

Federal tax law requires any proposed financing of a facility to be approved by a governmental agency having jurisdiction over the area it is located.

Barton Health has launched two new billing services: a Price Estimator Tool and a reduced MRI cost structure.

The new Price Estimator Tool gives patients an estimated cost for a planned surgery or medical imaging service at Barton Memorial Hospital. It allows patients to financially plan for a procedure and simplify their billing process by knowing their estimated costs prior to a procedure.

The Medical Imaging Department at Barton Health has been awarded a three year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology as well as the Gold Seal.

“Our radiology staff and facilities have endured a rigorous review process to confirm our medical excellence,” says Tom Davis, Barton’s director of Medical Imaging. “We are very fortunate to have a team of radiologists and staff who are both state and nationally certified and among the most elite in their field.”

Barton Health of South Lake Tahoe has announced the addition of a new radiologist, Dr. Robert Silk. He is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross where he earned a B.A. in Physics, a Masters from the New Mexico State University, and his medical degree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD. He performed his residency at Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
