Nevada Doubles Amount of Fraud Recoveries, DOJ Reports

CARSON CITY — The U.S. Department of Justice announced today that it recovered $5.6 billion in civil and criminal fraud efforts in 2011, a 167 percent increase over 2008. In Nevada, recoveries totaled $8.3 million in 2011, a 137 percent increase over 2008 when $3.5 million was recovered.

Barton Health is providing free seasonal flu vaccines to children ages three to 18 residing in South Lake Tahoe, to help the Lake Tahoe community stay healthy this season. Vaccinations are available November 5, from 5:00pm - 8:00pm AND November 19, from 1:00pm -5:00pm at Barton Family Medicine on Third Street in South Lake Tahoe.

The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center will host speaker, Marlene Black, who will present “Important Changes in Medicare.”
Potluck starts at 5:30pm, program starts at 6:30pm.

South Lake Tahoe city budget fight looms large; layoffs eminent
Submitted by Li Terrell on Tue, 10/11/2011 - 3:46pmAs an early snowstorm descended on South Lake Tahoe the first week of October, the continuing winter of economic discontent looks bleak for the city’s budget woes and employees facing layoff. Seventeen positions are still on the chopping block. At least half of those positions are linked to street maintenance and snow removal operations. While negotiations between the bargaining units and the city continue to be held, there is a hint of an impasse — while the city functions on only an interim budget until the end of the month.
