Three near-fatal overdoses in Douglas County - Counterfeit Percocet pills with fentanyl
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/13/2020 - 1:33pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In the past 72 hours, three people have had near-fatal overdoses in Douglas County due to fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills being ingested. Deputies were able to quickly administer Naloxone to save the victims.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) warned the public two months ago regarding the counterfeit Percocet pills with fentanyl being sold in the area.
Reno man arrested on multiple charges after found slumped over the wheel
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/24/2018 - 1:24pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A man found slumped over in the driver's seat of a F-150 pickup truck was arrested on August 20, 2018 on multiple charges including drugs, DUI, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of burglary tools.
Suicides on the rise across US in all states but Nevada
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/08/2018 - 9:04pmIt has been a very tough and tragic week, with the passing of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, and because of their suicides and a report released by the CDC, NAMI ((National Alliance on Mental Illness) El Dorado County is seeing an increase in phone calls from the community.
Suicide rates have been rising in nearly every state, according to the latest Vital Signs report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is the 10th leading cause of death and is one of just three leading causes that are on the rise (behind diseases of the heart and Cerebrovascular diseases).
Several pounds of prescriptions gathered during area Drug Take Back Day
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/08/2017 - 8:36pmLaw enforcement agencies and volunteers around the country participated in Drug Take Back Day on April 29, taking tons of medications off of the streets.
Both Douglas County and the City of South Lake Tahoe took part. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office had their Citizen Patrol volunteers staff five locations both at the lake and in the valley. They didn't measure the drugs in pounds, but in box fulls.
Staff was able to turn in 18 boxes of medications, which was more than last October’s collection.
Safety tips for Lake Tahoe holiday and winter travel

Roads will be full of cars, and the added threat of high winds and a snow storm will create issues for those not prepared on the road.
Drug Take Back Day on South Shore Saturday

The South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition is collaborating with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office on the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in front of Lira's Supermarket in Meyers. Over the last two events on the South Shore, 100 pounds of unwanted prescription medication turned in to authorities.
Drug Take Back Day nets 50 pounds of prescription medication
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/06/2015 - 7:05amThe South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition collaborated with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and the South Tahoe Police Department for the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, September 26, 2015, which saw approximately 50 pounds of unwanted prescription medication turned in to authorities. The event gave South Lake Tahoe residents an opportunity to dispose of all unwanted, unused, or expired medications for free with no questions asked. No liquids or needles were accepted and residents were asked to remove all personal information from bottles before dropping off medications.

3:35 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Cold Creek Trail - DEPUTIES WERE DISPATCHED TO A NOISE DISTURBANCE AT A VACATION RENTAL. THE RESPONSIBLE RENTER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED ABOUT THE NOISE.
Police K-9 Trials and Fire Fest on tap for Saturday in South Lake Tahoe

Drug take-back nets 61 pounds of prescription meds
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 05/02/2013 - 9:25pmOn April 27 the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration provided the public its sixth opportunity in three years to take back unwanted prescription drugs and collected 61 pounds of prescription medication in South Lake Tahoe, which is the most collected in South Lake Tahoe since this program was started.
In Sacramento, the DEA announced it disposed of 17,741 pounds of unwanted prescription medication, up from last year’s weight of 9,952 pounds.

In an effort to identify those impaired drivers who may get behind the wheel after consuming too much alcohol, additional NHP Troopers, as well as a multi-agency DUI checkpoint, are being scheduled this month.
