Drozdoff, along with John Laird, California secretary of natural resources, discussed issues on environmental policies of Lake Tahoe at a recent UNR seminar. The men spoke mostly on the logistics of protecting Lake Tahoe between two states, to which Nevada contributes one-third of the budget, with the other two-thirds the responsibility of California.
Six yearling bears nursed at Lake Tahoe are returned back to Mother Nature
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 04/11/2012 - 8:09amRehabilitated through Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a total of six orphaned bear cubs have been returned to the wild this spring, ending the California Department of Fish and Game's 2012 yearling bear release program.
The cubs were found in various locations around the state in the summer months of 2011 and were rehabilitated at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care prior to being judged ready to return to the wild. The state program is ongoing and will continue as new cubs come into the facility.

Submitted by Editor on Fri, 01/20/2012 - 1:29amThree bear cubs, nursed back to health by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Inc., were released into the wild this week.
The bears, each close to a year old, were brought to the South Lake Tahoe facility last summer where they were found malnourished and without mothers.
The California Department of Fish and Game released one of the cubs, a female, north of Truckee on Tuesday and two were taken to Alpine County on Wednesday. The cubs were put into winter dens made by Fish and Game biologists.
