On Saturday, September 14, at 10:00 am, the Dangberg Home Ranch Celtic Faire will be the final special event of the 2019 Dangberg Summer Festival.

A celebration of the Irish, Scottish and Welsh people who helped to settle Carson Valley will offer a day filled with entertainment and activities for all ages.

The gate opens at 9:00 am with the faire beginning at 10:00 am. From opening until noon, the Silver State Highlanders will be demonstrating heavy athletics such as “tossing the caber” and “weight for distance”.

August continues with a Chautauqua presentation of Mary McNair Mathews and a presentation by author Brooke Santina at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Wednesday, August 14, at 6:30pm, Mary McNair Mathews, Comstock businesswoman and author of the book Ten Years in Nevada will be portrayed by Anita Watson.

The month of July will end with a Chautauqua presentation of Duane L. Bliss, as August begins with the Millennium Bugs in concert at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Wednesday, July 31, at 6:30 pm, Doug Mishler will portray Duane L. Bliss, Comstock era lumber baron of Lake Tahoe.

On Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 pm, train expert Jim Clark will introduce and provide commentary on the 1926 film The General.

Young Chautauquans of the Douglas County Historical Society will present "We Taught the World New Ways to Dream" at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 26, at 6:30 pm.

Early June events launch the 2019 Summer Festival at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Saturday, June 1, at 10:00 am, Wendell Huffman, Curator of History at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, will speak on the history of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in Carson Valley, as well as the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. This is a free event.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless has announced the opening of their Warm Room for the 2018-19 season on Wednesday, December 12. This year they will be located inside the old Emerald Bay Dentistry office at 1201 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe.

The Warm Room will operate nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. through April 2019.

For the fourth year, the Warm Room will provide overnight refuge from the elements in a safe and warm environment for approximately twenty-five adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness during winter months.

Fall in El Dorado County means several things, but on the top of many lists is a trip to Apple Hill during the month of October.

Weekend crowds are already heading to the farms, wineries and breweries from Placerville to Pollock Pines, but the thousands of cars that make the trip each week during the month of October have prompted transportation, farming, tourism, safety and County officials to work together to alleviate the weekend gridlock on area roads.

Sierra Sweethearts will bring bluegrass music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 pm, Thursday, August 23.

Sierra Sweethearts are Northern Nevada’s premier all woman ensemble. The band features sparkling vocal harmonies and sizzling instrumentals.

Winners of the 2017 “Forte Award for Northern Nevada’s Best Bluegrass/Americana Band", the Sweethearts serve up an exciting mix of bluegrass, cowboy, swing and country classics, spiced with generous amounts of humor.

Singer and song writer Mike Beck will bring Western Americana music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 pm, Thursday, August 16.

Mike Beck is an engaging acoustic solo artist who performs in the United States and Europe. Beck is a regularly featured performer at The National Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering. He has seven albums with original songs that have been recognized as some of the finest compositions on Western Americana.

Author Robin Holabird will present “Elvis, Marilyn and the Space Aliens: Nevada Screen Icons” in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 11, at 10:00 am.

Robin Holabird’s book about Nevada films Elvis, Marilyn and the Space Aliens was published by UN Press in 2017. Holabird honed her writing skills with a degree in Journalism from Humboldt State University and reporting stints at KOLO, the Sparks Tribune and other media outlets.

The High Altitude Players present “Whose History is it Anyway?” an evening of comedy improvisation at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Thursday, August 2 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Improvisation, or improv, is a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue of a game, scene or story are made up in the moment. Often improvisers will take a suggestion from the audience, or draw on some other source of inspiration to get started.

In a return engagement, Sacramento area band, Todd Morgan and the Emblems, will bring 50s, 60s and Rockabilly style music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 pm, Thursday, July 26.

Todd Morgan and the Emblems is a young four-piece band, led by singer-songwriter and musician Todd Morgan. The band’s music consists of original pop and rock music, along with covers of 50s and 60s Rock-n-Roll and up to present day pop and rock songs. The band has recorded 3 albums.

Chautauquan Larry Lippmann will portray notorious stagecoach robber Black Bart at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 18 at 6:30 pm.

Stagecoach robber Black Bart was one of the most famous bandits of the old West. Between 1875 and 1883 he successfully robbed twenty-eight Wells Fargo stagecoaches without harming anyone and without taking a dime from any passenger. The story of how he was so successful and how he was eventually apprehended, ranks among the great legends of all time.

Milton Merlos will bring flamenco guitar music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 pm, Thursday, July 12.

Milton Merlos, who plays in the Spanish Flamenco style, is a native of Boston. Merlos started playing the guitar at age twelve, and began playing professionally at sixteen. Travels to Spain instilled a love for the Spanish Flamenco style of playing. Now a professional musician with eighteen years of experience, he lives part-time in western Nevada.

Speaker Glen Whorton of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society will speak on “The Prison in Nevada History” in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 7, at 10:00 am.

President of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society, Glen Whorton, will present a history of the Nevada State Prison from 1861 until its closing in 2012. The presentation will include its territorial origins, famous or infamous incidents, its wardens and inmates.

Young Chautauquans of the Douglas County Historical Society will present “Home Means Nevada” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 27, at 6:30 pm.

The Douglas County Historical Society Young Chautauqua presenters are 6 year old Samuel portraying “Claire Vance”, 5 year old Levi portraying “Abraham Curry”, 9 year old Rain portraying “Charley Parkhurst”, 11 year old Miciah portraying “George Washington Gale Ferris Jr.”, 16 year old Sandia portraying “Bessie Johnson”, 11 year old Adalee portraying “Tracy Knight” and 10 year old Mamre portraying “Benjamin Siegel”.

Speaker Jim Clark will present Part II of his program, “More Trains in the Westerns”, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, June 16, at 10:00 am.

Jim Clark, known to many as “The Train Man”, returns for a third year to cover more of the 250 films he has worked on. Clark is an engineer and train coordinator who is associated with several of the biggest films with trains and their Hollywood stars. Some of those films include "The Lone Ranger", "Wild, Wild, West", "Into the West" and “Water for Elephants”.

Author Nancy Raven will speak on her book A Postal Journey: Discovering Nevada Through Its Post Offices at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, June 2, at 10:00 am.

Upon Nancy Raven’s arrival in Nevada, a friend suggested Raven travel the state photographing each town, which she refined to Nevada’s post offices. Raven’s quest took her to every corner of Nevada, with her photographs, her art work and a song becoming the book A Postal Journey: Discovering Nevada Through Its Post Offices.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – On behalf of Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH), I would like to thank our community for its support during the third winter season of the South Lake Tahoe Warm Room project. Our organization received donations from over 150 different individuals and businesses and benefited from 64 volunteers who provided over 675 volunteer hours in the Warm Room.

Many South Lake Tahoe residents love their dogs. Most Police Officers love dogs too. I’ve heard it said by someone not so long ago…. “The more people I meet, the more I love dogs!” We at the police department understand and share in this fondness; however, we receive weekly complaints from community members regarding dogs in public parks, and most frequently dogs at the Live-at-Lakeview events. The South Lake Tahoe City Code (SLTCC), does not allow dogs, even on a leash, to be in our public parks (SLTCC §8.05.130).

This is an issue we get calls on all the time. I am going to be answering this question with information directly from the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, and Disability Rights Section.

We've seen them walking along the streets, sleeping in the forests or hanging outside of an all night market. The faces of South Lake Tahoe's homeless. Winter can be brutal on the homeless in town with below freezing temperatures, snow covered paths and no place to keep warm.

That is, until today.

The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless opened the doors of their new Warm Room on Friday, ready to take in their first visitors at 7:00 p.m. It is a safe and warm place for people over 18, getting them out of physically harmful conditions.

With the devastating fires currently burning in California it brings to the forefront emergency preparedness.

September happens to be National Preparedness Month and El Dorado County's Public Health Preparedness and Response reminds residents to make an emergency communications plan for themselves and their families. Planning ahead will help protect families, neighborhoods and communities when emergencies and disasters arise.
