Former South Lake Tahoe couple loses home in Carr Fire
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/31/2018 - 9:44pmOn Monday afternoon, people packed the civic auditorium to attend a community meeting to get answers to their pressing questions of evacuation orders, what’s next and who is in Shasta County to help.
One couple attending this meeting lost their home off Iron Mountain Road after living there for only 11 months.
You kind of go numb. You grab stuff like, ‘Why did I get that and not that that was right next to it?’ you know,” said Kathy Williams.
Ferguson, Carr, Perry and Whaleback Fires still burning

Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada getting smoke from two California fires
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/27/2018 - 7:36pmTwo large California fires are sending smoke into Lake Tahoe, Reno and the Carson Valley. For several days, smoke from the Ferguson Fire has filled the area skies, but today most of the smoke came from the one-day old Carr Fire.
The Ferguson Fire burning west of Yosemite continues to burn through rugged, hard to access terrain. Officials reported a 764-acre growth in the fire today for a total of 46,675 acres as of 6:00 p.m. Friday. Containment is at 29 percent.
Estimated 3,500 homes and businesses destroyed in NorCal fires; Red Flag Warning in place

evacuations across Northern California. Firefighters are battling 22 large
wildfires that have burned nearly 170,000 acres. Firefighters are bracing for
the winds to shift this evening and increase in speed. 17 people are confirmed
to have died in the wildfires this week. 11 people alone died in the Tubbs Fire,
making it the 6th deadliest fire in our state’s history.

The winds that fanned these fires Sunday night and Monday morning have decreased significantly, but local winds and dry conditions continue to pose a challenge. With the decrease in the winds combined with cooler weather, firefighters made good progress overnight. Sheriff officials have confirmed that 11 people have died as a result of the wildfires in Sonoma, Mendocino, Napa and Yuba counties.
73,000 acres burn in California in 12 hours- 1,500 structures burn, 20,000 people evacuated

Firefighters have been challenged with winds gusting in excess of 50 mph causing extreme rates of spread and volatile burning conditions.
Search for missing San Francisco teacher continues in Sierra

Area Search and Rescue volunteers help in Shasta County
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/16/2015 - 6:43amAlmost 40 Search and Rescue volunteers from El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services (OES) went to Shasta County over the weekend to help search vast terrain for an abducted 6-month-old baby.
The team of 20 volunteers were in Redding, CA, just hours after their services were requested on Friday, July 10 and spent the weekend searching through chest high starthistle and stickers, with no sign of the missing baby. Another group of 18 El Dorado County Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers headed up on Sunday.
Chief Probation Officer Appointed for El Dorado County

A unique position under California law, the Chief Probation Officer is appointed by the judges of the Superior Court, with the Board of Supervisors setting the salary and benefit levels. Due to the importance of this position, the Superior Court worked collaboratively with the Sheriff’s Department and county officials to select the best possible candidate.
