Family-friendly Halloween-themed spooky railbike rides on the V&T Railway

Celebrate Halloween this year with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides on the V&T Railway in Carson City.

From Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer child-focused haunted rides at at 6:00 p.m. and adult-focused haunted rides at 8:00 p.m. Each ride will follow COVID-19 guidelines and offer an alternative this year for Halloween fun. Ticket prices are $40 per rider for the 6:00 p.m. family ride and $75 per rider for the 8:00 p.m. adult ride.

South Shore resident Larry Sidney narrowly missed earning a spot on the historic Israeli Olympic Skeleton team headed to PyeongChang in February.

"It's amazingly exciting to be part of it," said Sidney on his return to Lake Tahoe after months of traveling the world and participating in skeleton races in pursuit of an Olympic spot.

Fallen Leaf Lake Fire added to CalTahoe JPA

For years the Fallen Leaf Lake Fire Department (FLLF) has wanted to join the South Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley fire departments and be part of the California Tahoe Emergency Services Operations Authority (CTESOA), and today they finally got their wish.

During Monday's meeting of CTESOA, also known as the CalTahoe JPA, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to add FLFF, giving them an ALS to be stationed at Fallen Leaf Lake as well as a possible voting spot on the board. (ALS-Advanced Life Support)

Local curling and skeleton bobsled athlete, Larry Sidney, will be featured as a guest reporter for Mountain Resort Television and their Lake Tahoe News Line featured on South Tahoe Now and seen on KAME-TV, My21TV.

Larry, a South Shore resident, is a member of Lake Tahoe Epic Curling, competing internationally with the Israel Curling Federation, and a competitive skeleton bobsled athlete for the Israeli team.

Athletes from around the world are headed to Sochi, Russia for the start of the 2014 Olympics on Thursday, February 6. Television viewers will be able to follow all ten Lake Tahoe area athletes starting on the first day of competition. The following is the NBC schedule of events, subject to change. Local athlete event times will be highlighted below in bold:

Local doctor Terrence Orr makes Olympic effort as part of athlete care team

Sochi, Russia is next on the list for orthopedic surgeon, Terrence Orr's medical volunteerism. As a physician with Tahoe Orthopedic & Sports Medicine, he will be previewing the future site of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games as part of his role as Head Team Physician for the United States Men's Alpine Ski Team — a position he has held since 1999.
