Opinion: May take years to recover from negative national VHR news
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/23/2018 - 7:51pmWe recently received talking points from a local public relation firm relating to how we could handle the adverse publicity which occurred due to the CBS morning show about the draconian VHR ordinance and subsequent $1000 fine enforcements. We, as property managers and owners, have been requesting support from the Chamber of Commerce, LTVA, and the Lodging Association in helping us fight the selfish attitudes of some locals regarding their entitlement to Lake Tahoe without visitors to their neighborhoods.

This new way of vacationing has not come without issues so many towns are creating ordinances or, like in Anaheim and other cities, banning them.

The balancing act will continue during a Vacation Rental Workshop during the next City Council meeting on July 11.
City's study on South Lake Tahoe vacation home rentals released

The much anticipated socio-economic study of the impact vacation home rentals (VHR) have on South Lake Tahoe has been released.
Michael Baker International was hired by the City to complete the study and create the report to identify emerging impacts of a growing industry, particularly impacts that may be directly affecting residents and persons who work in the city. They teamed with California State University, Sacramento on the project.
240 building allocations released by TRPA to Lake Tahoe jurisdictions

Community participates in first of three public VHR workshops in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/17/2016 - 12:32amThe City of South Lake Tahoe promised to hire a company to provide a socio-economic study on the impacts of vacation home rentals (VHRs) on the city. Michael Baker Incorporated, a company that has studied the same impacts at Big Bear Lake, Morro Bay, Monterey and Avalon on Catalina Island, was hired to do the job.
Wednesday night, representatives from Michael Baker had stations around a room at the Senior Center to determine what the almost 100 people who were at the meeting thought was important, and not important, of several aspects of both the study and VHRs.
Long agenda for South Lake Tahoe City Council Tuesday

Some of the items the Council will be addressing:
Old Business: Vote on Vacation Home Rental changes to the code which grandfather in multi-family units with a permit by September 1, a request by SnowGlobe to extend their contract by 3-10 years and budgetary items.
New South Lake Tahoe VHR ordinance goes into effect October 1
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/04/2015 - 9:05pmA new vacation home rental (VHR) ordinance will take effect in South Lake Tahoe on October 1, 2015.
The new ordinance will require all homeowners who want to rent out their homes to get it inspected by the Zoning Administrator prior to being issued a license. Since the real estate community told City Council that not having a permit prior to escrow may cause homeowners to lose sales, the current homeowner may now get it inspected prior to the sale in order to take as much uncertainty away from sales as possible. This inspection will be valid for one year.
City seeks proposals for socio-economic study about vacation rentals
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/18/2015 - 7:38pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe is seeking to contract with a consultant to prepare a Socio-Economic Impact Study of Vacation Home Rentals (VHR) using an academic and holistic approach.
The comprehensive, unbiased report shall assess how VHR’s impact the City, community, housing market and day-to-day quality of life for residents.
