In 2013, the El Dorado County Food Bank distributed 1.8 million pounds of food to county residents with a value of $3,000,000. The agency is not county funded and gets their food from donations, private donors, growers, businesses and the USDA.
Page & Sage Provides Weekly Bag of Food and a Book to South Lake Tahoe Students
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/19/2014 - 9:27pmThe goal is simple, "Helping the youth of South Lake Tahoe to be well read and well fed."
Hunger isn't just an inner city problem. Hunger isn't just a third world problem. Hunger affects approximately 16 million children in the United States with 3 million rural community households being "food insecure."
How can children focus on solving a math problem or writing an English paper when he or she is trying to ignore the persistent pangs of hunger? School work is forced to compete with hunger.

Kyburz post office threatened with closure, cuts to service
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 12/27/2011 - 8:33amA sign on the Kyburz Lodge reads "Welcome to Kyburz. Now leaving Kyburz," a reference to the blink-and-you-miss-it community along Highway 50 halfway between the South Shore and Placerville.
But the mountain hamlet is actually home to 110 people and the community is fighting to save its 150-year-old post office, located in the lodge.
