South Tahoe High athletes celebrate community college sports commitments
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/31/2019 - 10:30amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Twelve more South Tahoe High seniors celebrated their commitment to playing their respective sports after next week's graduation. Nine will be playing baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball at community colleges across the state while another three are playing hockey at the next level.
A group of family and friends gathered at the campus to cheer on the following students (alphabetical with sport, school and focus of education):

South Tahoe High's Kody Griffis signs to play football in South Dakota
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/08/2019 - 4:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - "We are super proud of you," South Tahoe High Football Coach Louis Franklin told Kody Griffis on Thursday as he signed his letter to play next year for the Presentation College Saints.
Surrounded by family, friends and teammates, Kody said he is looking forward to heading to South Dakota this summer to start college and playing at the next level.
"Thank you to all the coaches, especially Petties and Franklin," said Kody. "And to Goldberg for helping me physically and mentally."
STHS tackle Logan Langemeier headed to Jacksonville University
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/08/2018 - 12:26pmSouth Tahoe High offensive tackle Logan Langemeier will be wearing the green and white of the Jacksonville University Dolphins football team this fall.
During an official signing ceremony at the school Wednesday, the 6'4" 240 pound senior credited his mom and his training for getting him to this point.
A football player since the age of eight, Logan said he tried soccer but fell in love with football through Pop Warner.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows official training site for U.S. Ski & Snowboard team

They join Mammoth Mountain in California, Deer Valley in Utah, Copper Mountain in Colorado and Timberline Lodge in Oregon. In addition to being an Official Training Site for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is a U.S. Ski & Snowboard High Performance Center and U.S. Ski & Snowboard Development Site.
South Tahoe High's McCallan Castles signs to play for Cal Bears
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/20/2017 - 5:02pmThere will be a lot more Cal football fans in South Lake Tahoe over the next four years after McCallan Castles signed his letter of intent to play for Coach Wilcox and the University of California Bears Wednesday.
The highly recruited South Tahoe High School (STHS) senior had 18 Division 1 schools trying to get him to sign with them. He narrowed the list down to Utah, Washington State, Duke and Cal before making the decision, something that was easy the moment he stepped onto the Berkeley campus.

The six-foot tall volleyball player from South Lake Tahoe is now headed to the next level and will be playing for Sonoma State next fall.
"I'm so excited," said McKenna as she signed a letter of intent to be the newest Sonoma Seawolf at the high school Thursday. Besides playing volleyball she will also be studying nursing.
McKenna started playing volleyball in seventh grade and hasn't looked back.
New Strength and Conditioning room at South Tahoe High already big success
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/06/2017 - 11:16pmThe South Lake Tahoe community came together early in 2016 to raise money for a new Strength and Conditioning room at South Tahoe High, and the investment is already paying huge dividends.
"This room is changing the culture of our school," said STHS Football Coach Louis Franklin. "Having a room like this allows each kid to reach their genetic potential."
Student athletes are getting stronger, injuries are down and they are able to maximize their potential on the court, the field, the pool, or whatever the venue is for their sport. Cheerleaders and dancers also utilize the facility.
Strength and Conditioning room and program to be added at South Tahoe High
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/10/2016 - 8:39pmThe very popular Sports Medicine program at South Tahoe High School just got a new counterpart, a Strength and Conditioning program and center. While Sports Med teaches students how to help athletes after injuries occur, the strength and conditioning program will teach students how to train in a way to prevent injuries.
At Tuesday's Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board meeting, the board voted 4-1 to add the Strength & Conditioning center with accompanying classes at STHS.
South Tahoe High plans to add Strength and Conditioning Center

The Sports Medicine program at the school was developed to help train students to assist injured students, and the new plan at the school is being designed to prevent injuries to the student athlete.
