Howie's Top 20 favorite Christmas movies
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/21/2020 - 9:14amChristmas started early for this guy once the pandemic hit. I put my Christmas lights up over the 4th of July and for a short while started watching Christmas movies too to try and get that feel-good feeling happening. Okay, I also did it because I wanted to watch movies where no one was wearing a mask and hugging one another without fear of being exposed. I’ve always enjoyed movies for their pure escapism and who doesn’t want to escape what we’ve been through already ya know? I also like being wrapped around a movie completely.

South Tahoe Greenway one step closer to reality
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/18/2017 - 7:55pmA 3.86 mile shared used bike trail from Van Sickle Bi-State Park to Sierra Boulevard is getting closer to becoming reality after a Memo of Understanding (MOU) has been developed between its three partners.
The first phase of the South Tahoe Greenway Shared Use Trail was completed through the Bijou neighborhood in Summer, 2015, but the next phase needed a partnership between the City of South Lake Tahoe (City), Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) and California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) to be completed.
Controversy brewing as City and County reps on Tahoe Conservancy Board resign
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/15/2017 - 5:33pmFriday's board meeting of the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) was delayed almost two hours due to ice on the road near near Zephyr Cove, causing it to close, and those weren't the only icy conditions on the South Shore that day.
The other ice could be felt during the meeting as conflict of interest, ethics, integrity, suspicious actions and lack of transparency were the theme of the day.
All three items on the agenda Friday were placed there amid a stressed relationship between the City of South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County and Patrick Wright, the Executive Director of the CTC.

Potential hotel development swap causing ire around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/11/2014 - 11:48pmThere may be a duel this winter over hotel rooms around Lake Tahoe.

South Lake Tahoe doesn't want to lose the hotels, along with the important associated sales and room taxes.
Placer County wants the hotels so it can open development of new lodging along Placer County's north shore of Lake Tahoe, which hasn't had a new hotel built since 1959.

Op/Ed: People need to come out for the Meyers Area Plan meeting on Thursday
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/15/2014 - 9:23pmMost of us moved to Meyers because it's a rural community, away from the City & tourist congestion. I am pro-growth, most locals are, as long as it's appropriately sized growth for our community. The proposed Meyer's Plan however, opens the door to a Mega Resort, with incentives for large development and in my mind, lacks long range planning.
I started going to planning meetings last summer, just to listen, but it wasn't until December that I got really concerned. Here's a timeline of events, from my perspective:
