4th of July Tahoe Truckee Honor Flyover circling Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - There won't be fireworks shows around Lake Tahoe but there will be the 4th of July Truckee Tahoe Honor Flyover honoring our nation's independence and frontline healthcare workers. Warbirds will take to the sky, flying over Truckee and Lake Tahoe communities.
A contingent of historic plans will leave the Truckee airport at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday the 4th and fly counterclockwise around Lake Tahoe (schedule below), coming back into Truckee by 12:15 p.m. The planes will not be on display at any airport, just a great show in the air.

The Nevada Air Guard High Rollers will be honoring the men and women in healthcare who are battling COVID-19 by doing a flyover of Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada area hospitals with a C-130 on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
152nd Airlift Wing will start from its base in Reno and pass over Renown South Medical Center at noon, and for an hour pass over the following hospitals.
Carson Tahoe Hospital, Carson City - 12:07 p.m.
Carson Valley Medical Center, Gardnerville - 12:10 p.m.
Barton Memorial Hospital, South Lake Tahoe - 12:14 p.m.
Giving Tuesday pet adoption and fundraising day for Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe

"Little Rays of Sunshine" is bringing two litters with a total of 11 puppies, along with one of the moms, to the public for adoption.

Squaw Valley - Body of missing boarder found, avalanche injures 5
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/02/2018 - 6:16pmA snowboarder missing since yesterday afternoon was found deceased at Squaw Valley Ski Resort on Friday. Rocklin resident Wenyu Zhang, 42-years-old, was found deceased this morning by Squaw Valley Ski Patrol. A search area was narrowed through the use of a tracker program used by the resort.
North Lake Tahoe high school students participate in cadaver surgery

Approximately 60 students enrolled in advanced placement biology and human body systems classes scrubbed in to witness a total knee replacement surgery on a cadaver in the University of Nevada's advanced surgical lab at their North Shore location.
Former Truckee High football coach dies in head-on collision
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/02/2017 - 11:41amFormer Truckee High School head football coach Robert Shaffer was killed in a head-on collision outside of Sierraville at Saturday night according to the California Highway Patrol in Truckee.
Shaffer, his wife Lisa and 22-year-old son Patrick were in their Toyota Corolla on SR-89 in Sierra County just before 9:30 p.m. when a Ford F250 driven by 54-year-old David Slaughter of Sacramento drifted into Shaffer's lane.

Upshaw, who often played in the Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe, died of pancreatic cancer in 2008 at Tahoe Forest Hospital.

Gene Upshaw Classic moves to Schaffer's Mill for 2015 tournament

The Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic is moving to Truckee's Schaffer's Mill in 2015, the seventh year of the tournament.
Upshaw, who played often in South Lake Tahoe's American Century Celebrity Golf, withdrew from the 2008 tournament held July 11-13 that year. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in North Lake Tahoe just a month later. He had a home on the North Shore and was hospitalized at Tahoe Truckee Hospital where he died on August 20, 2008.

Megan Kasden spoke through tears this week when she answered the phone and found out she had won the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund Super Bowl raffle. The prize is an all-expense paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVIII at the Met Life Stadium. The raffle raised $30,000 for traumatic brain injury research and programs and services for cancer patients and families at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. The same center where Kasden’s husband, Gary had just completed a long series of chemotherapy treatments.
