Tahoe Keys Volunteer Weed Pull

Join the League to Save Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe RCD, and the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association for a volunteer weed pull event in an area of the Tahoe Keys that is heavily impacted by invasive terrestrial weeds.
Volunteers will learn how to identify invasive weeds as well as the steps to take to keep them out of the Lake Tahoe Basin and their gardens.

A Stage 3 breast cancer survivor, Phillips has been a cheerleader and true inspiration to hundreds of women in South Lake Tahoe.

Volunteers invited to tackle Lake Tahoe invasive species

Lake Tahoe Basin residents and visitors are invited to help remove one of Tahoe’s most prolific aquatic invasive weeds, Eurasian watermilfoil, during a community volunteer event at Baldwin Beach on Sunday, July 15.
The project is a partnership of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Preventing the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species is a top priority for all three agencies.

Lake Tahoe luxury yacht sinks at dock

A three-level, $3.25 million luxury yacht sank at a Lake Tahoe dock overnight.
On Monday morning, the Sierra Rose sat partially submerged at its prominent location near the mouth of the Tahoe Keys Marina. The lowest level of the 86-foot yacht was completely underwater, while the second level of the vessel was partially submerged.

South Lake Tahoe Real Estate is comprised of homes for sale in some fantastic neighborhoods. The Tahoe Keys is one of those and has long been known as home to upper scale houses with boat docks in the back yard, fantastic views of the lake and a very appealing place to call home. Built in the late 1950s and early 1960s, this 740 acre development at the mouth of the Truckee River was created with lakefront living in mind with its 11 miles of backyard waterways.

Tahoe Keys house fire knocked down

South Lake Tahoe firefighters responded to a house fire early Sunday morning in the 2100 block of Venice Drive. The fire call came in at around 11:55 p.m. and was reported to have started in the bathroom, possibly by an electrical heating lamp or device. When firefighters arrived, smoke was visible around the roof area. The fire was knocked down at 12:25 a.m.
The occupants inside the home evacuated. No injuries were reported.

In another audio installment, Michelle Sweeney of the Tahoe Project interviews Lars Anderson who first came to Tahoe in 1996 to take a look at the aquatic weed problem growing in the Tahoe Keys. The problem of aquatic weeds is now a lake-wide problem. “I think that what is happening now is that the agencies are realizing that there need to be actions taken to stop these weeds,” says Anderson.

Report: parachutists in distress near Pope Beach

Two, possibly three people in parachutes reportedly in distress have been reported missing near Pope Beach in South Lake Tahoe this morning.

One parachutist may have been rescued from the water, according to initial reports.

South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue is looking for the parachutists who apparently landed on the water, and have positioned themselves at Pope Beach, Camp Richardson and the Tahoe Keys, according to police scanner traffic.

Rescue boats have also been launched.

The upcoming Lake Tahoe Science Conference in Incline Village, Nev. will feature presentations from the Tahoe Resource Conservation District (Tahoe RCD) and its partners. Will Anderson of Tahoe RCD’s Watershed Resources Program will present on modeling of storm events, and Jim Brockett will display photographs highlighting aquatic invasive species control projects underway in Lake Tahoe by Tahoe RCD and its partners.

Tahoe Resource ConservatioN District inspectors will do inspections and decontaminations at Cave Rock and Lake Forest boat launches from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, and inspections only (no decontaminations) are available at Sand Harbor, Thursday through Monday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Friends recall Florence Donovan-Gunderson; witness describes shooting as tragedy hits South Lake Tahoe

A gunman who opened fire inside a Carson City restaurant has torn a hole through the South Lake Tahoe community, taking the life of a long-time local woman, maiming her disabled husband, and sending shock waves in the community after learning the gunman has family business ties in town.
The brutal murder that happened inside the International House of Pancakes this week claimed the lives of three U.S. Army National Guard personnel and Lake Tahoe Keys resident Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67. Shooter Eduardo Sencion, 32, of Carson City turned the automatic weapon he was packing on himself and left both communities stunned and asking questions about why such a senseless act of violence happened.

South Lake Tahoe woman among those killed, husband wounded in IHOP shooting

Florence Donovan-Gunderson and her husband Wally Gunderson, who split their time between Southern California and their home in the Tahoe Keys, were having breakfast at IHOP in Carson City Tuesday morning when a gunman shattered their lives forever.

According to a family friend, Florence was killed inside the restaurant, along with three Nevada National Guard members, while Wally was wounded. A man interviewed by KRNV 4 described how he applied first aid to Wally, while his wife was obviously killed instantly.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office held a news conference at 9 a.m. this morning to officially release the names of the victims.

Suzy Krzaczek, a teacher at South Tahoe Middle, said her and the victim's families had been close friends for more than 30 years. She said that Wally had called her mother yesterday from the hospital to take care of the couple's dog before he was wheeled into surgery.
