Kingsbury Grade reopens after flood damage repairs made
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/18/2017 - 6:11pmKingsbury Grade, the main connection between Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley, has been reopened by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).
In December, a sinkhole formed where a drainage pipe crosses underneath the road at mile marker 4.3, approximately 10 miles up the road on the Carson Valley side. NDOT closed it on January 3 to put in temporary repairs and reopened three days later.

NDOT reopens Kingsbury Grade
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/06/2017 - 8:18pmNevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced that State Route 207/Kingsbury Grade, the main connection between South Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley is back open after temporary repairs were made to stabilize the sink hole.
"We actually put in an interim repair and in the spring or early summer we'll come back and completely reinstall the eroding drainage pipe that caused the sinkhole," said Meg Ragonese, NDOT Public Information Officer.
She told South Tahoe Now to remind motorists that even though the road is open tonight, chains or snow tires are required.
Mt. Rose Highway runaway truck ramp completed; commercial trucks allowed again

“We encourage everyone to visit and enjoy Lake Tahoe,” NDOT District Engineer Thor Dyson explained. “But, with many visitors traveling to Lake Tahoe, drivers should plan a little extra travel time for road improvements being made in the Cave Rock area.”
Cave Rock tunnel project 25 percent completed

The road construction is to enhance driver safety along the east shore of Lake Tahoe, but with the massive, $6 million undertaking, there are minor traffic delays. With the upcoming July 4 holiday, NDOT is reminding drivers that they should anticipate these minor travel delays.

Lane reductions at Cave Rock beginning Wednesday
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/08/2015 - 1:19pmIn order to prepare for a 2016 project that will extend the westbound Cave Rock tunnel entrance, drivers using Highway 50 through the tunnel will experience traffic delays starting Wednesday, September 9, 2015.
Both directions of traffic will be alternated through the eastbound Cave Rock tunnel and travel delays of up to 30 minutes between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. can be expected for the next four to five weeks, Monday-Friday.
Roundabout in Incline Village going down to one lane

Roadwork at Cave Rock to cause delays next week
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/21/2015 - 6:35pmHeavy rains in February caused part of the rock face at Cave Rock to fall into the lanes of traffic on Highway 50. A temporary fix was completed at that time.
Depending on the weather, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) plans on closing two lanes in order to further evaluate the damage and secure the Cave Rock rock face and slope on U.S. 50, Lake Tahoe following recent rockfall.
Emergency repairs to close part of Highway 50 through Cave Rock
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/10/2015 - 11:22pmThe weekend's storm brought heavy rains into the Lake Tahoe area which caused heavy boulders to fall onto Highway 50 near Cave Rock on Saturday evening. NDOT maintenance crews removed the boulders from the roadway, some as large as six feet wide.
Starting on Wednesday, February 11, emergency repairs will begin to remove potentially unstable hillside rocks in the same area to prevent future slides. The westbound lanes in the tunnel will be closed as crews work in the area.
Thor, The New South Lake Tahoe City Mascot

Thor belongs to SLTPD dispatch supervisor Susan Keast. She recently took Thor to one of the monthly all city employee meetings where he was almost unanimously voted on as the mascot according to Police Chief Brian Uhler. “There was one vote against Thor,” said Chief Uhler. “I don’t see how anyone could vote against that fuzz ball puppy.”
