Douglas County DA gets dismissal of OSHA violations surrounding Trump visit

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two citations issued by the state after President Trump's September 12, 2020 visit have been dismissed. They were both issued following his visit at the Minden-Tahoe Airport since the visit was during Governor Sisolak's emergency order that prohibited public gatherings of more than 50 people.

The State of Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Nevada OSHA) has agreed to dismiss the two citations after they were formerly contested by the Douglas County District Attorney who represented both parties charge, the County and ABS Aviation, Inc.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - After being moved from a planned speaking event at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, President Trump will be making a stop at the Minden-Tahoe Airport on Saturday, September 12 according to a Douglas County spokesperson.

Douglas County was contacted by the Secret Service and representatives of the Trump Campaign late in the evening on Wednesday September 9, 2020 requesting use of the Minden-Tahoe Airport for a campaign rally.

Reno-Tahoe Airport says "no" to Trump rally planned for private hangar

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority has informed private airport hangar tenants who were planning to host a campaign rally for President Donald Trump on Saturday that the 5,000-person gathering would be in violation of their lease agreements due to Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak’s directive of no gatherings in excess of 50 people and Washoe County’s recommendation to limit the number to 25 or less.

El Dorado County Election Results

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - New figures have been released by the El Dorado County Elections Department.

As of 11:38 p.m. Tuesday, all 198 of the precincts have been counted with 52,093 ballots of the 124,979 registered voters, or 41.68 percent.

Measures affecting the County portions of the South Shore, Measure B and Measure M are not meeting the required 2/3 vote to pass at this time.

At the first Lake Tahoe Summit on July 27, 1997, then-President Bill Clinton and Vice-President Al Gore told of their commitment to keeping Tahoe blue after decades of erosion from roads, increased emissions from automobiles and boats, removal of wetlands and overgrown and dying forests were threatening its clarity.

National Day of Mourning - Post office and federal offices closed

It is not very often there is a National Day of Mourning. President Trump has called for one on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 and his executive order will close the federal government to honor the late President George H.W. Bush who held the country's highest position from 1989-1993.

There will be a state funeral for the 41st president held at the National Cathedral in Washington starting at 8:00 a.m. PST. After the ceremony, his body will be moved to Texas, where he will be buried at his presidential library.

Bush died on Friday at the age of 94.

South Lake Tahoe 'Women's March' on Saturday

Scholarships available for DACA application renewals at LTCC

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Thanks to the San Francisco-based non-profit Mission Asset Fund (MAF), scholarship funds are now available to cover the costs for California community college students who need to renew their Deferred Action for Childhood Arrives (DACA) status before the upcoming October 5 deadline. MAF, which has a long history of supporting Dreamers, has dedicated scholarship funds specifically to help California community college students, along with CSU and UC students, pay for the $495 DACA renewal fee.

South Lake Tahoe teen to ride in Inaugural Parade in Washington

South Lake Tahoe native Emily Cefalu will be riding in the Presidential Inaugural Parade Friday as a member of the Culver Girls Academy Equestriennes.

The 17-year-old senior is the daughter of Paige and Christopher Cefalu of SLT.

Emily is part of the 24-member girls mounted unit who will be participating in their eighth inaugural parade. They will be alongside the 56-members of Culver Military Academy's Black Horse Troop who will be at their 17th inauguration.

International Magician of the Year heading to South Lake Tahoe

Rob Lake has performed his illusion shows all over the world, and now he'll be bringing his show over the holidays to the South Shore Room at Harrah's Tahoe from December 22 to January 7.

The 33-year-old Norman, Oklahoma native told South Tahoe Now he's never been to Lake Tahoe before.

"I'm really, really exited," said Lake.

Lake caught the magic bug as a 10-year-old when he saw a magic show with his family. "I knew immediately then and there I was going to be a magician," he said. Lake said most of his training comes from the school and public libraries.

Trump in and out of South Lake Tahoe quickly

Donald Trump and the almost 900 attendees at Friday night's fundraising dinner at Harrah's Tahoe most likely didn't see or hear the protesters outside, but passing cars and pedestrians sure did.

A small group of protesters started standing on the corner of Stateline Avenue and Lake Tahoe Blvd at 5:00 p.m., waiving signs and chanting anti-Trump sentiments. Honks and clapping greeted the group outside, while those inside paid $200 to $500 a person to attend the 2016 Battle Ground Dinner, sponsored by the Nevada Republican Party.
