New Lake Tahoe Unified School District superintendent is Whittell High graduate
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/29/2020 - 2:00pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dr. Todd Cutler has been announced as the new superintendent for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD). During their closed session meeting Saturday, the Board of Trustees decided to reveal their announcement ahead of the previously announced March 10 date. His contract has now been finalized and he will start work at the end of the school year.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/23/2019 - 7:40pmIt was a beautiful September day in South Lake Tahoe, as students, who have encountered challenges and temporarily reside at the South Lake Tahoe Juvenile Treatment Center (SLTJTC), received an extraordinary experience from dedicated volunteers and the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. The El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) administers SLTJTC’s academic program and partnered with El Dorado County Probation to provide this day of learning to teach students about the animals, potential careers and social skills.

The cross-country team is competing in a meet at the Nevada Union High School on Saturday.
“I can see great potential in everyone going forward and can’t wait to see what the team will bring to big meets, come the end of season,” said junior Carissa Buchholz, the current 3A Nevada state champion.

The longtime South Lake Tahoe resident died Nov. 8, 2018, at home. He was 87.
Beyond a large family and rich trove of friends, Ed leaves behind a legacy as an artist. He was a quiet man who for years let his voice be heard through his work.
Born in Palo Alto on Oct. 17, 1931, to Selma Alquist and John Laine, Ed grew up in the Bay Area, having graduated from Sequoia Union High School in 1950. He attended San Jose State College, Cal Arts and the University of Oregon. In Oregon he majored in art.
Threats at El Dorado County high school being investigated

The individual is a resident of Texas and was contacted by local law enforcement in that state. The individual, identified as nineteen year old Justin Boaz of Tyler, Texas, admitted to making the post because he was “bored”.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/29/2015 - 9:00pmUnion Mine High School sophomores Nick Brown and Justin Schwartz had just finished leading their junior varsity football team to a 27-8 win over Foothill High School on Friday night when people noticed something wasn’t quite right.
Then Brown passed out, said El Dorado Union High School District Superintendent Stephen Wehr.
The two were rushed to the emergency care, Brown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and Schwartz to Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center, according to Wehr.

Four firefighters burned while on the Lowell Fire; Willow Fire growing

9:30 p.m. update 7/26/15:
The Lowell Fire burning near the town of Alta off of I-80 in the Sierras has burned 1,500 acres and is now 15% contained.
Early this evening, two CAL FIRE and two U.S. Forest Service firefighters suffered burn injuries while battling the Lowell Fire in Nevada County. The firefighters were airlifted from the fire and transported to UC Davis Burn Center in Sacramento.
El Dorado County Sheriff: Teen steals grandma's guns, swaps for pot
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/18/2014 - 9:39amEl Dorado County sheriff's investigators say a 14-year-old boy traded his grandmother's guns for marijuana and they don't know who has the firearms now.
The boy, who is from Missouri but staying with his grandmother in Wilton (Sacramento County), took a sledgehammer to her safe, took her two guns inside, and drove off with her car Monday night, according to sheriff's Deputy Chris Stelz.
Chad Houck Named New South Tahoe High Principal

Houck, his wife Kelly and their four children will be relocating to South Lake Tahoe during the summer (he starts his home search on Wednesday with Realtor Adele Lucas). His first day on the job will be August 1st.
