Boys and Girls Club Lake Tahoe Golf Classic set for October

The entire $195 entry fee goes directly to the Boys & Girls Club to continue its work with local children. Last year the BGCLT raised over $35,000 with this year’s goal to break $45,000.
Iron Girl Triathlon brings economic boost to Lake Tahoe region

Focus groups reveal Nevada tourism branding challenges

Six focus groups in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, demonstrated little knowledge of the Silver State and its tourism attractions including Lake Tahoe, reports the Las Vegas Sun. Lake Tahoe, Reno to host Chinese Cosmos pageant
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/19/2011 - 5:10pmNevada will host 18 contestants from all over the world who are competing in the Miss Chinese Cosmos Semi-Finals, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, announced today in a press release.
The event will take place in Reno and Lake Tahoe from Sept. 23-30, 2011. The contest moves around the world each year, last year taking place in Sydney, Australia. This is the first time the pageant has been held in the United States.

As the Lakeview Commons project in the middle of town plugs along, a building is taking shape near the El Dorado Beach boat ramp.
The two-story structure is intended, like most of the project, to enhance beachgoers’ experience at El Dorado Beach, as well as consolidate a number of different uses into one safe and secure location.
National Forests in California provide benefit to local economies

Outdoor recreation activities in California’s national forests contributed $2 billion dollars to local economies and helped sustain an estimated 38,000 jobs in 2010.
The U.S. Forest Service’s National Visitor Use Monitoring report released Aug. 19 shows that national forests attracted 170.8 million recreational visitors nationwide and sustained approximately 223,000 jobs in rural communities across the country.

A gunman who opened fire inside a Carson City restaurant has torn a hole through the South Lake Tahoe community, taking the life of a long-time local woman, maiming her disabled husband, and sending shock waves in the community after learning the gunman has family business ties in town.
The brutal murder that happened inside the International House of Pancakes this week claimed the lives of three U.S. Army National Guard personnel and Lake Tahoe Keys resident Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67. Shooter Eduardo Sencion, 32, of Carson City turned the automatic weapon he was packing on himself and left both communities stunned and asking questions about why such a senseless act of violence happened.

Lake Tahoe Eagle Rock Hiking Trail Opens To The Public

A trail to the stunning Eagle Rock overlook opened this week, providing visitors easy access to the summit of one of Lake Tahoe's most spectacular vistas, as noted by the Huffington Post and the Sacramento Bee. The new trail, created at a cost of $100,000 by the California Tahoe Conservancy, was built with erosion-control measures.

The nonprofit Tahoe Fund partnership with Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, called the "Ski Conservation Fund", will raise an estimated $75,000 annually for the nonprofit Fund to support environmental improvement projects within the Lake Tahoe Basin.
