SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are three open seats on the South Tahoe Public Utility Board of Directors this election season, two for a four-year term and one for a two-year term.

South Tahoe Now reached out to the candidates and below are their answers to a set of questions. For the two four-year terms, incumbent Kelly Sheehan is running for reelection, Duane Wallace is running after being appointed to fill Jim Jones's spot on the board until this election, and they are joined by David Peterson.

STATELINE, Nev. - The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) board today unanimously approved the Tahoe Douglas Visitor’s Authority Tahoe South Event Center planned for the parking lot area of Montbleu Casino Resort in Stateline. Edgewood Tahoe has donated the 13.3 acres at the corner of Lake Parkway and Highway 50 needed for the center.

Douglas County Recreation’s Youth Sports Program recently received $600 from the Tahoe Douglas Elks Lodge #2670. These funds will be used for the purchase of new equipment allow the opportunity to develop a youth lacrosse league that has never before been available to the children of Carson Valley.

Among the items being purchased for the donation are an additional goal, soft sticks, and balls.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Each of the nine candidates for City Council answered the same ten questions that were given to them by South Tahoe Now. For nine consecutive days the candidate's responses will be shared in the order received.

Today, the first-time candidate Tamara Wallace gives her responses as she seeks a seat on the South Lake Tahoe City Council:

Kenneth Carl Rollston died on January 3, 2017 while on a trip to Monterey.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Carpenter Rollston; his sisters Joanne, Garol, Lynne, and Marci; his sons Jim and Brian and their wives Keri and Viktoria; Nancy's sons Christopher and Erik and their wives Yvonne and Andrea; and six grandchildren on whom he doted: Ryland and Kaj, Zane and Miranda, and Griffin and Maggie.

As we collectively hold our breath to see who will lead our nation, our city, our public school system and our local utility district, it is a great time to define leadership.

I learned about leadership while serving on many boards over the last 40 years, starting with Tahoe Parents Nursery School, graduating to school site councils and youth sports boards, then on to community boards, at the County and local level. I have observed many great leaders and learned what leadership is and is not.

A record-breaking 100 businesses will participate in the 2014 Business EXPO –“Tahoe South in ACTION” this Friday, March 28. The event begins at 4:30pm and continues until 8:30pm in Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Convention Center. It will highlight South Shore businesses’ goods and services to an anticipated crowd of 1,200 attendees.

Youth Sports and Recreation is a new business on lower Kingsbury Grade on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. The TahoeChamber will be celebrating their opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 30 at 5:30 pm.

It is a place for kids to get fit and have fun with a focus on engaging the brain and body in their fitness programs by utilizing functional fitness with a variety of state-of-the-art activities and techniques.
