This week's Pet of the Week is Loki, a 10-year-old Shiba Inu mix. He is 35 pounds and loves attention so he prefers to be an only dog.

He would be best in a senior home and he qualifies for the "Senior for Senior’s" discount. Loki needs a home without cats

Barton Foundation hands out $35,500, still has $14,500 left to give

In a community with many needs, the Barton Foundation today donated $35,500 to ten different agencies that provide services to the residents of South Lake Tahoe during their annual Philanthropy Day. For the seventh year, the Barton Foundation gave away money raised through their annual fundraising efforts which include the annual Festival of Lights.

Poets are next presenters at LTCC Writer's Series

Lake Tahoe Community College’s Writers’ Series continues on Friday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Roberta Mason Library with visits from poet and journalist Ilyse Kusnetz, and teacher, farmer, and poet Julia Shipley.

The two writers will read selections from their works, answer audience questions about their writing process, and sign copies of their books for sale that night. This event is free and the public is welcome to attend!

Soroptimists looking for community minded young women for award

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra and Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe are accepting applications for the Violet Richardson Award. Each year the two local Soroptimist clubs honor young women in the community ages 14-17 who are engaged in volunteer deeds such as fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; or working to end discrimination or poverty.

Community kicks off holidays with "Light Up Lake Tahoe"

The City of South Lake Tahoe is encouraging all businesses that line Highway 50 to decorate their store fronts for the upcoming holidays.

On Saturday, December 5, the City's Fire, Police and Snow Removal departments will be decorated and head to the "Y" along Highway 50 from Stateline, starting at 6 p.m. As in years past, they wat to see businesses turn on their lights as the procession goes by, creating a wave of light through South Lake Tahoe.

Scavenger Charity Dash to raise funds for Lake Tahoe Humane Society

Elevated Fitness is holding the fundraiser for the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A.

Teams of two will work together in a wild adventure that solves clues, finds scavenger items and is a complete fun challenge.

Local author releases new book, holding launch in Meyers

Lake Tahoe author Jennifer Quashnick will be launching her newest book "Sierra Nevada River of Lies" at Bonafide Books in Meyers on November 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Her newest book is the second one in Quashnick's Mountaingirl series which was started off by "Sierra Nevada Trail of Murder."

Tahoe Keys "Haunted Yard" promises candy...if you can make it to the door

This will be the seventh year Brandianne and Dan Brown have been entertaining trick-or-treaters with their "Haunted Yard" in South Lake Tahoe. Tahoe Arts Project giving away trip to Disneyland

Tahoe Arts Project is selling raffle tickets for a chance to win four one-day Park Hopper passes to Disneyland and California Adventure Park worth $620.

“Bread & Broth provides a great service to the local community and we’re happy to be a part of serving the South Lake Tahoe community,” said Linda Mueller. Linda and husband, Jim Mueller are the owners of Adventure Mountain Resort Lake Tahoe and they have been sponsoring a B&B “Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD)” for the last three years. Hosting a Monday evening meal has been a family and business affair where over the years their sons and Adventure Mountain Resort team members have volunteered at their sponsorship dinners.

13th annual Treat Street moves to Lake Tahoe Community College

Trick or Treat in a safe, fun environment at the 13th annual Treat Street on Saturday, October 31 at the Lake Tahoe Community College from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Local businesses and non-profits will be there to hand out candy to children in a safe, controlled environment.

Thousands of children have attended in the past, decked out as superheroes, princesses, magicians and monsters.

Volunteers will be passing out candy, serving hot cocoa, pizza, cotton candy, popcorn and s'mores in and around the haunted house.

Bread & Broth would like to thank the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge #1632 for their Adopt A Day sponsorship of the Monday, October 12th evening dinner. Thanks to the Moose Lodge’s generous donation, the 91 folks who came for dinner were served baked salmon with orange sauce, spaghetti with red sauce, a mixed green salad, a lovely strawberry/cantaloupe salad and a wide assortment of desserts. Although heaping servings were doled out during the first serving at 4:00 p.m., 27 diners returned for the 5:00 p.m. “second” serving of this tasty and nutritious dinner.

Holiday buzz starts with Barton's 45th Holiday Faire

Tahoe Youth & Family Services holding 3k Ugly Sweater Walk

A fun 3k walk with a twist is the next fundraiser for Tahoe Youth & Family Services. After this summer's successful Color Blast Run, they are now having an Ugly Sweater Walk starting at 10 a.m. on November 14, 2015 at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The agency's intern, Indee Lacayo, is planning the event as part of her Community Health curriculum at the University of Nevada, Reno. Lacayo is a lifelong South Lake Tahoe resident.

Deadline approaching for Celebrity Golf donations

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority will be accepting applications from local nonprofits for distributions of $55,600 until Monday, October 26, 2015.

The money comes from the 26th American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament held in South Lake Tahoe in July.

Fundraising campaign for family of SLT Police Officer Mark Hounsell

While the community is still in shock over the death of South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Mark Hounsell, his wife Jeanne and a family friend, a fundraising campaign has started to help their children as they move forward in life without a parent.

All four of Mark's children were in the 2004 Chevy Suburban on October 17, 2015 with Mark and Jeanne when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed, killing all three adults inside.

Mobile food bank to be in South Lake Tahoe

Edward Abbey authored twenty-one books in his lifetime, including Desert Solitaire, The Brave Cowboy, and The Fool's Progress. His comic novels, The Monkey Wrench Gang and Hayduke Lives helped inspire a whole generation of environmental activism.

Tahoe Valley Campground celebrates 40th anniversary with party

As the camping season of 2015 draws to an end, Tahoe Valley Campground will celebrate over 40 years in business with a Tahoe Chamber ribbon cutting ceremony, barbecue and horseshoe tournament on October 22 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The community is invited to attend.

“We are very proud to celebrate another successful summer here at Tahoe Valley Campground,” Resort Manager Duane Jakob said. “We are so happy to be part of this community for the past 40 years and look forward to the future as the South Shore continues to be a world renowned destination.”

South Tahoe High Interact Club held clothing drive for classmates

The newly formed Interact Club of South Lake Tahoe just finished up their first community service project of the school year, a clothing drive. Knowing that some of their classmates may not have the clothing needed to keep warm during winter, the students started a clothing drive.

The clothing will be kept in a room managed by the South Tahoe High Booster Club that will also have non-perishable food items to distribute to students in need. Twice a week that room will be open to students to visit and get needed food and clothing. Those dates will be announced at a later date.

STMS receives money from all sales at Sno Frozen Yogurt

The South Tahoe Middle School PTA will receive 60% of sales October 16-18 at Snø Frozen Yogurt Cafe located at the Chateau at Heavenly.

All sales will help the students if you mention you are there to support STMS.

Snø Frozen Yogurt Cafe is South Lake Tahoe's only froyo destination, conveniently located just steps from the Stateline casinos and Heavenly's gondola in the new Chateau development. Try their 12 flavors of frozen yogurt and refreshing sorbets
and top it off with over 50 toppings.

They are open from 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Community asked to give final input on Regan Beach redesign

The redesign of South Lake Tahoe's Regan Beach will affect visitors and locals for generations to come, yet very few have given input during the five month public meeting and planning process.

A final design was presented at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center on October 6, 2015 and approximately 25 people attended. In July there were 50 people at a public meeting where the top three designs for the beach were presented. In June, 24 people attended. An on ine survey was offered to the public for them to weigh in this summer, and the City received 320 responses.

City prepares for 50th anniversary gala

The City of South Lake Tahoe is coming off a successful 50th Anniversary Parade and heading right into the event to cap off a year of celebrating, the 50th Anniversary Gala.

The black tie event on Saturday, November 7 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel will recognize many founding members, community organizations and residents who made becoming a city a possibility. Significant events will also be highlighted.

Successful Open House at South Lake Tahoe's three fire stations

In honor of National Fire Week October 4-10, the City of South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Department held an open house at all three of their fire stations on Saturday. The public was invited to get information, learn about fire safety, get free swag and win raffle prizes.

STAT members were on hand at all three locations as well. STAT, which stands for South Tahoe Action Teams, is a program is designed to incorporate trained citizens in the field with the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and other first responders during times of crisis.

Every Monday at St. Theresa Church’s Grace Hall, the Bread & Broth cooks use their well honed culinary skills to prepare nutritious and tasty meals enjoyed by our very grateful dinner guests. These wonderful meals are made possible by the funding provided by B&B’s “Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD)” sponsors. On September 21, 2015, the hosting AAD sponsor was Riva Grill on the Lake. In addition to donating $250, Riva Gill sent a sponsor crew who brought their dining skills to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the evening’s guests.

American Century Championship to give away another $55,600 to local charities

Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA), NBC and American Century Investments already gave $51,500 to South Lake Tahoe area Soroptimists, the Boys and Girls Club, high schools and the Gene Upshaw Scholarhip Fund, but they still have more to give away.

LTVA is now accepting applications from local nonprofits for distributions of $55,600 as a result of the 26th American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.

Senior nutrition program in need of volunteer drivers to deliver meals

The El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program is currently looking for dedicated, caring volunteers in South Lake Tahoe to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens in the Tahoe Basin.

"We currently have a critical need for drivers in the Senior Nutrition Program in South Lake Tahoe," said Ruth Green, Program Coordinator for the Senior Nutrition Program. "We greatly appreciate the valuable service our volunteers provide! Without our volunteers many of the senior programs in our county would not be possible."

Movie and discussion on Latino American history at LTCC

The community is invited to a free film screening of the movie, Latino Americans: 500 Years of History, on Monday, October 12 at 7 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community College's Board/Aspen Room.

Following the movie, the college's history, political science and ethnic studies instruction Dr. Albert Ponce will lead a bilingual discussion. LTCC is one of 200 institutions around the county who received funding resources and support to host festivals, collect oral histories, facilitate informed discussions and hold other public events about Latino American history and culture.

Kudos: True Tahoe support for community events

Thanks to the support of 38 local businesses/organizations, dozens of local vendors and hundreds of weekly attendees, On Course Events produced over 20 community events this summer, including 3 brand new event series’.

Purple Paw Project shows effects of domestic violence on pets

Join Live Violence Free and the Lake Tahoe Humane Society for "The Purple Paw Project" on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Bijou Park.

There is an effect of domestic violence on the family's pets, and this new project will use the free Saturday event to inform the public on what this is. Pets, as are children, are the innocent victims.

Join them at the Kiwanis gazebo at Bijou Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for food, music, a pet photo booth, raffle prizes and dog training.

Pet food donations will be accepted.
