On Saturday, May 28 at 3 p.m., Wylder Resort Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series with a 50-minute slide show, “Going for the Gold-Lake Tahoe and the Olympics.”

My first reaction after watching, “Top Gun: Maverick” was simple: this is the first major blockbuster movie to kick off the summer season. I was a little dubious though at first having a sequel decades later after the original. I mean, wow. Was someone running low on money and needed a quick cash flow? All cynicism was put to rest the moment Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” blasted into the theater! This flick stands on its own but I highly recommend seeing the original.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After a hiatus during the pandemic, Lake Tahoe Community College’s (LTCC) popular Writers’ Series is returning this June with a free reading, book signing, and conversation with writers Gayle Brandeis and Suzanne Roberts. The public is welcome to the event on Thursday, June 2 from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the Roberta Mason Library on LTCC's campus.

Each writer will read selections from their works, followed by a book signing for any interested audience members. Books for signing will be available for sale at the event.

The Meyers Mountain Market, a California Certified Farmers Market, is set to open for its second season, on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022 from 3 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Tahoe Paradise Park.

Join them every Wednesday through September 28 for farm-to-table fresh produce, live music, food, artisan-handmade crafts, and a grand ole' time.

Tahoe Paradise Park is located at 1011 E San Bernardino Ave., in Meyers.

On Saturday, May 21, Wylder Hotel Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series with an entertaining presentation, Tales Along El Camino Sierra. Using rare and seldom seen photographs, local historian and author David Woodruff recounts the impressive and fascinating efforts promoted by boosters in Eastern California and Western Nevada, to get a modern roadway (Highway 395) built in their region. From record-setting flights over Mt. Whitney to partnering with two World Fairs, the ballyhoo created by the Inyo Good Road Club was amusing, improbable, and effective.

I've always had a soft spot for the outgoing LX 570 for its nostalgic and indulgent charms despite being a bit of a homo robustus, but the new edition makes a case for itself on pure all-use merit.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Author Lori Howell Thompson is holding a book signing and wine tasting event to launch her book, "Living in Harmony with Wildlife in Lake Tahoe."

Thompson, who lived at Rubicon Bay for over 50 years, has been collaborating with Denise Upton, the animal director for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, and Toogee Sielsch, a Lake Tahoe black bear specialist, in writing her book.

MEYERS, Calif. - Everyone is invited to the Community Wellness Gathering on May 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1089 Magua, #2 in Meyers.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Heavenly Village starts its Summer Concert Series on Thursday, May 5 with a special preview of the summer excitement to come with Mariachi Cazadores for Cinco de Mayo. The official series kicks off on Memorial Day Weekend and runs through Labor Day Weekend.

All genres of music will be featured, with most shows on Fridays and Saturdays, holiday Sundays and the week of the 4th of July holiday, and American Century Championship Golf.
