Slow Food Lake Tahoe, in partnership with the UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe and UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, is once again offering a free high elevation organic gardening workshop series focused on the edible plants that grow best in our unique high elevation climate. It’s free for all ages and experience levels to attend the workshops and participants will also have an opportunity to purchase starts of their own for $15 which will include a mix of varieties specifically chosen because they grow best in our region.

Enjoy another presentation of the Wylder Hotel Hope Valley's Eastern Sierra History Series on Saturday, April 2. This week it is a living history presentation of “Snowshoe Thompson-Mailman of the Sierra.”

Thompson carried 80 lb. sacks of mail across the Sierra Nevada during winter snows for 20 years. He was a larger-than-life character, saving numerous lives, serving his community unwaveringly, and devoted his life to the betterment of all.

Wylder Resort Hope Valley continues its history series with a Chautauqua-style presentation, “Those that Survived” on Saturday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m.

Local author and historian David Woodruff takes on the character of Donner Party organizer and survivor, James Reed as he recounts the gripping tale, of the courageous and heroic efforts of himself and others, who saved the lives of 45 of the 81 destitute soles, who were trapped by severe, early-season snowstorms in the Sierra Nevada Mountains during the winter of 1846-47.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Brewing Company is hosting a free punk show on Friday, March 25 at 8:00 p.m. The Bread & Butter Band will be playing covers of all your favorite punk songs.

South Lake Brewing Company's fan-favorite Juice Division Hazy Pale Ale will be released that night along with specialty merch for the occasion. The event will take place at South Lake Brewing Company, 1920 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The public is invited to the opening reception at the Melphop Gallery for "Imag[in]ing America," a contemporary photography exhibition by Jennifer Garza-Cuen. The gallery is located at 210 Elks Point Road in Zephyr Cove, Nev.

The reception is from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Decades of demonstrations drawings by South Lake Tahoe resident, Phyllis Shafer, were created while she taught figure study classes. These drawings comprise the Capital City Arts Initiative’s exhibition, "Phyllis Shafer: Figure Studies" in Western Nevada College’s Bristlecone Gallery.

The free exhibit is open to the public through April 20, 2022, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the college’s Bristlecone Building, 2201 West College Parkway, Carson City. The drawings will be for sale as a fundraiser for the Capital City Arts Initiative.

The talk will explore the processes that transport sediment into Lake Tahoe and how they can be used to tease out ancient episodes of drought and precipitation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The ever-popular Shops at Heavenly Village Easter Egg Hunt is completely SOLD OUT even after recently releasing extra tickets.

I wanted to like the new Corolla Cross, Toyota's new compact crossover. Drawing on the name of one of its most successful models for marketing purposes, this new entry sits below the RAV4 in Toyota's hierarchy, but above the niche C-HR. Actually, think of this as a new RAV4 'classic.' I say 'classic' because the RAV4 has grown rather large over the past decade, dwarfing its early forebears, with this new Corolla Cross being a more similar size to those classic RAV offerings. In fact, it's larger than a pre-2005 RAV4.

Eastern Sierra historian David Woodruff takes on the character of one of the wealthiest men in the United States, who kept an African Lion for a pet, built one of the most beautiful pleasure crafts to navigate Lake Tahoe, entertained former Presidents, and unintentionally conserved a large portion of Lake Tahoe lands for the public to enjoy today.
