SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif/ - The Tahoe Art Walk is back in a new way during these physically distancing experiences. A virtual tour has been created instead of the once-a-month in-person event and participants can plan their own tour, shop online, and plan a route with a map once ready to head out as businesses reopen.

Location

Tahoe Art Walk’s fun and free self-guided tour of local art takes place all along the South Shore, December 14th. Most events at 4 to 8 pm. Follow the map at TahoeArtWalk.com.

You can print out a copy of the map directly from the website. Click on the locations to get directions right on your device and to view information about special event details and times. Look for unique classes offered at special rates during the art walk too!

Hope Lutheran Church of the Sierra in South Lake Tahoe is holding their inaugural Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Plan on getting into the holiday spirit and wanting through the church's Fellowship Hall to get unique items for everyone on your list (or for yourself too!).

The church is located at 930 Julie Lane in South Lake Tahoe and there is plenty of free parking.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's Wild Tahoe Weekend at the US Forest Service's Taylor Creek Visitor Center June 21-22! On Saturday it's the Native Species Festival and on Sunday, the 10th annual Lake Tahoe Bird Festival.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will host the seventh annual Native Species Festival on Sunday, June 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free family event is at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center, located three miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89.

The annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held on Friday, April 26, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 27, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The show will be staged in the South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose Room. Use the Al Tahoe Boulevard entrance between the bus garage and track.

Admission to this show is FREE, and free door prize drawings will be held every twenty minutes with prizes going to show attendees.

Come join the fun at Black Bear Lodge in South Lake Tahoe when Santa and Mrs. Claus make the scene for a festive afternoon of cookies and crafts on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. All ages are welcome with a variety of options taking place!

For the next two months, the Valhalla Boathouse Theater at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake tahoe will be home to several concerts, starting August 1.

The Washoe will re-unite at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe this weekend to honor their culture and heritage during their annual Wa She Shu It’ Deh Native American Arts Festival.

This festival will be held on the Valhalla Grand Lawn at Tallac Historic Site on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 - 29, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The 25th annual Valhalla Renaissance Faire will be held over two weekends in Lake Tahoe. The Scottish invasion including a Celtic Concert is on June 2-3 and Pirate and Barbarian Hordes invade the festivities June 9-10.

The Seventh Annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show is coming back to the South Tahoe Middle School Multi Purpose Room on April 27 and 28, 2018. Produced by Golden Bear Events, the show will run from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Douglas County Senior Services are hosting their 18th annual Big Mama's Show & Shine Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lampe Park Pavilion in Gardnerville, Nev.

Big Mama’s is a day of vendors, crafts, food, fun, music, and classic cars. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Meals on Wheels Program which delivers meals to the home bound seniors within Douglas County. The program is projected to serve over 29,000 meals to Meals on Wheels clients in 2018, and more seniors sign up for the program each week.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Local female business owner, Karly Matzen of The Tides Project, sells her crafts online and trade shows throughout the Tahoe basin. You make have seen The Tides Project booth at the Made In Tahoe festival or Live at Lakeview this summer. In return, 10% of her sales goes back to funding art programs. Her vision is to bring supplies to the community in order to support a positive outlet for youth through the Arts.

Those on the South Shore will be treated to two holiday bazaars on Sunday, December 3, 2017.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a beautiful day for the arts as the second annual “Will’s Kids” art fair took place at Valhalla Tahoe on Friday, August 4th. The event drew three hundred local youth and their families to see a free performance of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program. The Young Shakespeare Program takes the mainstage Shakespeare performance from the annual Sand Harbor festival and condenses it to a one hour version accessible for children. This year was the slapstick romantic comedy, Love’s Labour’s Lost.

Community support is needed to help the girls participating in "The Girl's Project," an empowerment group focusing on the needs of young women in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Tahoe Youth and Family Services started “The Girl’s Project” in 2010 with the vision to empower high risk young girls in our community to become more confident and influential women later in life. The Girl’s Project originally began in three of our local elementary schools, Tahoe Valley Elementary, Sierra House Elementary and Bijou Elementary and has now expanded and includes the South Tahoe Middle School.

Tahoe Modern Makers is inviting the community, both locals and visitors, to the first day of their free Share a Smile campaign on Friday, July 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at their store located at 3668 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.

"We normally do a different craft each week but we feel as if the "Share a Smile campaign is going to be big," said Debbie Carty. "We want the community to embrace randomly bringing a smile to a strangers face and what that can mean for a community."

A plunge into Lake Tahoe can literally take your breath away. It may be warm outside, but the lake can be dangerously cold. Lake Tahoe’s average surface temperature in the summer is 63°F, and can drop to 53°F just 18 inches below the surface.

The inaugural Lake Tahoe Brewfest is coming to the South Shore on Saturday, June 10 from noon to 5:00 p.m., and will be the first major event to bring together all of the breweries from the Lake Tahoe area’s emerging beer scene.

The Swiss Chalet Center at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sierra Boulevard will be the scene for the family-friendly event which will feature local arts and crafts, food, live music, games and more.
