Icy roads lead to South Lake Tahoe three car accident

Updated 9:45 p.m. - Three cars were involved in a series of incidents on Pioneer Trail that ended with one overturned car just before 6:30 p.m. Monday night.

According to Capt. Al Martinez of South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, a truck driving westbound near Price Road spun out of control on ice and ended up in a snowbank. One vehicle traveling in the opposite direction saw what happened and was able to stop, but a second car behind them had to make an evasive maneuver which resulted in an overturned car.

According to SLTFR, all passengers were secured by seat belts, something that most likely prevented major injuries. One adult in the car had a possible broken wrist and all occupants were transported to the hospital as a precautionary move.

Public Works brought out a sander immediately to treat the roadway but drivers should exercise caution tonight as dropping temperatures and slick roads may cause further issues.

Martinez said it was most likely driving too fast for the very icy conditions that caused the accidents. The truck in the snowback was pushed out and the driver was able to drive away. The second car was tapped during the evasive move of the third driver.

All three drivers are visiting South Lake Tahoe.

"Slow down, take your time," said Martinez.
